The tan ute seen at Bonneville is owned by me and yes I am part of huntimer photography and a tech inspector for SCTA and a gear head and a pinstriper and a race car driver Sent from chick's iPad using TJJ
Hi .. Heres a 1956 Ford Mainline ute I had about 25 years ago...had FE 428 .C6......9".....was a great towing machine.....Doug
I agree, my daily driver is LHD A rear view camra that was mentioned is a good idea. It just all add wieght to the argument that to convert a car is a lot of work and expense for little gain
A buddy just finished this 1940 Ford ute I found in a yard ten years ago - the roof had been cut off to ship from Australia to the US and it was in very sorry shape. It now runs a 351W with a C4 and Gear Vendors overdrive. another one saved....
What a beauty. Roofs were cut off for shipping as the shiping bill was usually for total cubic feet of the item. Total length x width x height. Convertibles usually had the complete windscreen frame removed, That could be enough to bring the shipping bill down by half.
I have a rotten 50 Meteor 4 door (Ford) that I am gonna do something with and I am thinking a modified Ute ....what I am thinking is using 2 door doors ,slanted b pillar chopped but still keep the 1/4 window ...might stretch the wheelbase a bit to help the proportions...if I knew how to photoshop I would but for now its just stuck in my head lol!
My understanding is that they have the same chassis/frame. This is one I've just bought, the plan is for an 8BA flatty, early g/box and maybe a channel as there are no floors... it'll have a 38 deluxe grill n 39 std bonnet sides.
Here's one I did a bunch of tin work on , , , headers , tilt forward hood , 33 3 window swage over the doors , tubs , tank , firewall , tray , tailgate , floor . Shame to see Owner has got it up for sale . http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/specialist-cars/hot-rods/auction-465429763.htm Shrapnel
This is my '51, bought it on a tuesday and it was lowered and scalloped by the weekend, its needs some rust fixed in the usual chev places but apart from that its a great ute
ive found 1 1/2 of one of these,,,,been negotiating with him for nearly 3 years to get hold of it,,,ive bought 3 other fx fj ute shells off him to try and eventually get to it,,,and its a real long haul getting them each home to resell,,,its in real bad condition, but its a 34 ute with spare quarters and turret
Wow that's a nice body ,like your plans...still have the Jailbar project?..Rod. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Don't cut two up to make one. Use one for patterns. Doors and cowls aren't that hard to find comparatively speaking. They're just too rare to lose one now.
Utes should have the same extra frame bracing as an open car. All my '37-'40 utes had the extra X-member braces to stop the side rails rotating outwards when under load. I'm not sure about the earlier years. Also available was a helper spring kit that added two more leaf springs, one each side. Most ex-military early Ford utes I've seen had these springsunless they had been subsequently removed. She'd have been a hard ride then when empty!
This original 1934 Roadster ute is available if anyone is interested. It is a top quality build - it belonged to a buddy and his stuff is the best of the best....
How'd you go? or did i read about this some where else? Deu55 yeah still have the 40 pick up parts will have to move them now ute is home. will use chassis & running gear I had for pick-up. RobC any chance of some pics of extra bracing? I guess this is a btt also. Glenn
