would you make this trade ,,, 56 chevy for 28 roadster pickup ,,, let me know what you think ?? View attachment 1643979 View attachment 1643980
It's hard to say without any details on either car. But just going on what can be seen I'd do it in a NY minute!
I'm more of a fan of the 56 myself - but since you asked - just a heads up.......If you are any taller than 5'11" - I wouldn't trade. You just gave up driving on a longer trip and driving in the rain as well. 28-29 had zero leg room and if you plan to drive more than 20-30 minutes you will not be comfortable. I based that on my experience with a simular 29. Seriously - before you trade - drive it more than around the block. Go for a 20 mile drive and be aware of your legs and foot position to the gas pedal. If it works for you - go for it. I just wanted you to be aware more than looks. But ,still comes down to what you like. IMHO. Good luck.
I'm w/Corncob and D-Russ... I'm 6'6" and like the be able to lock my doors, drive in the rain, and bring a few friends along, no way I'd trade the 56 for that lil guy... lol
I've seen the 56 around and it's real nice. I agree with corncob on driving it more than just around the block, but I am a sucker for going topless. I think I would do it, anything you get there are things you will want to change.
Living in Texas during the summer, I would seriously think long and hard. Driving a roadster in the blazing heat is no fun. The '56, you could add a/c if you haven't already. That being said, That RPU is great looking. I would keep the '56 and buy the RPU if I could afford it. Since I got into this hobby, I've always had 2 cars in case one breaks down, I still have something to cruise.
As T-Bird drives by with his knees around the steering wheel to steer and using his hand to push the gas because his legs are locked up above the wheel and his feet won't touch the pedals. Funny.
Ditto on the above. I like both, but I couldn't drive a long distance (>50 miles) in that RPU. I'd be keeping that '56, just because of that.
no question gone as long as the A is up to snuff. Whats a top for the A worth to keep you out of the sun.
When you test drive that roadster take it on the hi-way too, the wind noise is loud and that sun will be beating you down. Being a roadster owner I would keep the 56, but that's just my opinion.
I think it would be easier to build the rpu than to build the 56. If you can keep the whole family involved the better chances you have of being involved with it yourself without hearing a bunch of crap!
What the hell are you waiting for ? If that was me I would have that in my garage by now ! Now why can't I find deals like that ? hackster , Honestly it all depends what you really would love to have between the two . That can ONLY be answered by you . Both are really nice but I love trucks so you already know my answer to your question . Now please tell us you are going to get this deal done today ! Retro Jim
I've got two 56's, Belair 2 dr sedan, and sedan delivery. I would really have to think hard about that, the RPU is neat but I am sure nowhere as comfortable for the long haul. Plus if you are taking more than 1 passenger it could get real tight.
Yes! Seriously look and experience the lack of leg room in the Model A. I am only 5'-8" tall and I had major discomfort sitting in my 1928 Model A pickup. Way too tight.
Ive got a RPU and a 56 hardtop. No way would i trade my only 56 for a RPU. Im 5,11 31 years old and cant drive that little truck for too long. Its so dam hot in the summer that its no fun. I always say that i drive the RPU more in the spring and fall and warm winter days than in the summer. Ive taken the 56 on trips, but i wouldnt think of driving my RPU more than an hour away. Its really fun when its fun, but its just not versatile.
I just sold my GNRS winning 29 RPU because at 6'1" I was too uncomfortable to drive the thing much. If I don't have the urge to get in it and drive wherever I feel like going, no reason to keep the car. It was really uncomfortable over about 45 minutes and wasn't even that much fun for short hops around town (other than the fact that it had way more power that the little truck needed and burnouts were just a stab ot the long skinny pedal away, as most any speed )
Keep the '56. If you traded and didn't like the poor ergonomics of the RPU, you'd be stuck with trade remorse. The RPU might be alot harder to sell for the price the '56 would command.
Well even though I am a fan of 56. I would get a good idea of what they were (really) worth. Go with the best money deal.
