When I had the interior done on my 37 Chevy, the back seat was just re-covered using the original springs. Is there anything I can do to make it less bouncy? I thought about somehow putting some foam in between the springs. Anybody ever had this problem and what did you do about it. Thanks!
I don't know if this will help in your case, but I have hog-ringed springs to the adjacent springs, so pushing on one engages a lot more.
Cut foam squares a little bigger than the spring and the same length and twist them in the springs. do every other one to start it firms them right up
I hear a lot of guys running lengths of burlap or jute between the springs to firm up worn out springs. Might give it a go, and its cheap.
this is what i did in the '41 i used carpet pad, too stiff then i used 4 inch square pieces of foam worked great
All of these tips will work. Do it quickly. The back seat of a 48 Chevy and 49 Dodge bouncing is why I got married. I just got promoted to Grenade inspector. Got any to check...Ooops what was this little pin for? Hold this thing while I check!
How 'bout baggin your back seat? Then you could adjust the stiffness. What the helll... I mean, they're baggin everything else... You know I'm kidding, right?
funny you should mention the grenade.. we were out picking old car parts one day and were doing well, buying most any thing he had. so he says you guys know any thing about these????? AND STARTS HANDING US GRENADES AND MORTERS!!!!!!!!!!! we were handing them back faster then he was pulling them out of a green box!!
This is first step before recover,,,then a layer of burlap covered with cotton batting, then a 1" piece of foam,,now the cover and pulled very tight...Maybe you should find an upholstery shop that know what they are doing..sorry to be so blunt
We've attached edge wire across the springs in the opposite direction to stiffen up old springs as well
