I have a line on a nice running crosefire 350 that I can drop in a project car. The car will be a daily driver and I am looking for good mileage and performance. I'm on a budget big time!! I was looking at installing the two TBI's on a duel quad intake I have for better hood clearance and performance over the stock intake. Or a friend of mine has a 350 pickup with TBI that he said I could have the TBI from it. I could fit that to a 4 barrel intake I have. Which will give the better mileage(gas is still around $3.75 here in Illinois) best performance??
That's kind of what I thought---the stock crossfire intake is a dog! Think I'll checkout doing the Dual Quad intake with the crossfire TBI's ---should make a good combination for both performance and mileage.
You wil need a wiring harness. Not cheap. I think if you install the TBI you would be happier. I intalled. TBI on a 72 pick up. Used the stock intake. It ate gaskets between the adapter and the intake. suggest you use the correct intake. Other wise you will be happy.
Not really the forum for this. Use the search function and see what's already there but sounds like you need one of those "street rod" forums.
those are low HP motors. i would **** can the intake and run a carb. but do not expect much power. Chevy did not know what the word 'power' meant back then. I had a 82 crossram powered camaro. it was a slug by todays standards.
I played with a cross fire 305 about 20 years ago. I finally put a stock 2bbl intake and carb on it, and it ran pretty good then. If the 350 is in good condition, just stick an old quadrajet and stock intake on it....or something better if you can find it cheap. The 39 chevy I had with a 350 with a qjet got decent mileage, especially after I put the overdrive on it
What did that make brand new, 205 hp? 195? You can do much better than that. I, personally, wouldn't put it in my rod. Or in my car, for that matter.
The 84 vette I have got 23mpg with the Cross Fire when it was running. It doesn't have a lot of HP and it's probably a lot more aerodynamic than whatever rod you're putting it in so I would lose it.
Consider TPI, you can put together a complete TPI setup for about 650$ if you dont need a fuel pump. Harness is about 300 and intake with injector can be had for about 250. The ECM can be found for 50$. TPI offers reliability, great mileage and neck snapping torque. There is a book called TPI swappers guide and its a must have. TPI comes two ways, MAF and MAP. I prefer MAF but MAP is cheaper to and easier install.
Wifey had a crossfire motor in a 85 camaro. When I rebuilt the motor I wished I woulda ditched that system. Had nothing but trouble with it
