My friend Sherman passed away today. I got a call from his wife before lunch and she let me know that he is not hurting any more. I met him a couple of years ago at church. I drove my model A RPU there with my daughter and this older guy came running over proclaiming "I have one too". It kinda startled me since most of the people in my area (especially in my church) are old retired golf playing folks. I did not know what he was talking about. He said he had a model A he had put together in the garage and we hit it off quickly. He brought his car out that afternoon and we started hanging out more and more ever since. After a few months of hanging out, he told me about the cancer that he had but I saw no outside signs of it. He kept going to all of the car events with us but as time progressed, i saw it taking its toll. The last few months got pretty rough, but his attitude has been an inspiration to me. He only looked forward and was happy about the places he had been and he truely loved his family and friends. He sent his car to his son, and gave me the old licence plates from his car as well as some old signed hot rod inspired art work that he had collected before he passed. His stories of how they did it back in the day were always fun, educational, and sometimes ammusing. He had been building hot rods since the mid 50's, so he has seen a lot of things come and go. My only regret is that I did not get to meet him earlier. I will miss him.
Bless him for finding you as a friend and fellow car enthusiast! Our prayers go out for his Blessed Rest and prayerss for you, his family and friends who suffer through this time of loss.
A very nice tribute to Mr. Kennedy. It sounds as if you were both fortunate to have each other as friends. I'm sorry for your loss.
Very sorry. Sounds like he was a great guy. Glad you two had the chance to become friends and spend quality time together.
I am extremely sorry to hear this, I knew Sherman back then ,went to a few get togethers that he was at, always had fun with him as he was fun to be around, I had wondered where he had gone to. RIP Sherman
28RPU6, Thanks for posting this tribute to Sherman. He was a tremendous friend as you know. I have known him for many years and traveled many roads with him. I never knew anyone as positive as Sherman was or as devoted to hot rods. He had a long and varied list of rods he had built and I never tired of his stories, they were the best! Rest in peace my friend. Jim
