the 383 sbc I put together seems to run good and with the breathers off the valve covers there doesn't seem like alot of blow by but when i drive it it blows a ton of oil out of the breathers so I put a pcv on the drivers side and a breather on the passengers and it still blows alot of oil out of the breather the valve covers aren't baffled but I do have baffled grommets, so is it too much crank case pressure and something is wrong in the engine?
I had a 383 sbc, wonderful engine, I had baffles that covered the oil hole This is a picture of a stock sbc baffle, as you can see in both styles devert oil from splashing on the oil fill. This style is on most good alum covers
in addition to a PCV,A breather in two places is a real good idea...... Chevy even in the old days of a blowby tube, had an 1-1/2" hole inthe oil fill tube an about the same in the road draft/blowby breather and downtube, do the math= that is a total of 3" venting the crankcase area.....
A high lift cam and/or roller rockers will really sling some oil off the top of the rockers. Baffles do help. Also, we learned that not all pcv valves are the same, some flow more air than others. We had too small of one on my Son's 455 Olds and we were getting some oil out of the breather on the other side. We got a larger orifice one and the problem went away. Don
If you are generating more pressure inside the engine than the PVC can handle you have some problems.Make sure the valve is actually working and hooked up to a good vacuum port. Do a leakdown test and compression test. Some engines just need more than a PVC so install a vacuum system with a fitting angled into the exhaust collector and run a hose up to the breathers.
If your running roller rocker"s and lifters or solid lifters you might want to put oil restrictor in it you dont need all that oil up top,and a pcv on a stroker?
thanks for the feedback they are roller rockers and hyd lifters with 488 lift the valve covers I have are moroso alum they dont have baffles in them
