I am trying to figure out the door regulators on my 36 ford pickup. The picture I Have is what I think is the drivers side, but I can not seem to get the track set correctly in the guides of the regulator. Does it look like the arms in the correct position in the down direction if the window was in the down position? Thanks Jeff
I turn mine counter clockwise to roll the window up. Assuming yours is the same I would think what you have pictured is the passenger side. Is the problem that the track falls out when you run it all the way down?
I think what you have in the picture is in the "up" position. I have a set laying around in the shop, I'll check it out tomorrow and see what they look like.
Remember that both of the springs wind up when the glass is lowered, if your picture is a passenger side regulator rolled up the rusty spring is on the wrong way.
Man guys as soon as you get this figured out I can make mine work. I have it in the door and the glass hooked to it but as soon as I roll it all the way down it jumps out of the track. I think I am going to put a small screw in it to make a stop depending on how far the glass goes down???
Maybe you guys know, maybe you don't. The first quarter turn moves the glass backward in the guide before it rolls down, it moves the glass back about an inch, creating a draft, then rolls down into the door. There should be a stop mechanism in the slides inside the door, there is a pin on the bottom glass track that fits a slot in the regulator, which is bent outward to grab the pin on its way up. From the bottom, fully open, the window will crank all the way up, the pin is grabbed by the regulator and the last quarter turn pushes the glass toward the windshield, sealing itself in the window felt. Don't know how else to explain this, hoping you understand, it took me some time to figure mine out.
Your picture is of a Passenger side regulator that you are attempting to install on the driver side. Check procedure, Place the regulator crank handle on the left horizontally, wind regulator so the lift arms are pointing vertical up, the slide groove should be in position between the lift arms an the large hole in the slide gear fully exposed. That is Right side unit. If it is a Left the arms will not go vertical and the hole is partially covered
So i took a few more pictiures. The one I am holding on the door is the regulator all the way up and the pin in the round guide slot is in the up lock position. The othere two pics is where I am not sure if correct. One is the regulator is half way down and the pin is about to come out of the round guide slot. The other is where the wiondow would be in the lowest position but the pin is now out of the round guide slot. So if the window is in the lowest position should the pin be out of the guide and the glass side guides guiding the window so when it is cranked up is will be guided back into the round guide slot? Thanks Jeff
At one time I thought I had this figured out but now I am more confused? When I roll the glass all the way down and then try to roll it back up the pins doesnt grab the regulator coming back up. I didnt know that the glass slides back an inch as it is going down. I will have to look at mine again. I got so pissed after spending a couple of hours on the drivers door and beating my hands up I took the glass back out until I understand better what I am doing!!! For some reason I get the feling that this isnt as hard as I am making it?????
Took me three days to figure it out, the regulator slot has a peculiar bend in it, on the way up, it lines up with the pin on the bottom glass track and the pin slides neatly into the slot. You'll notice the door doesn't have a vent window, when you first wind the regulator, the window moves straight back toward the door handle about an inch before going straight down, the reverse going up, goes straight up till closed at the top, then moves toward the windshield the final inch. Great no draft system, works very well, keep playing and you'll make it work, wish we were closer, I'd show you mine.
What's the best way to cut a template for the side glass if you have to in for the shift when it is rolled up. I also have a 5 inch chop on mine. Jeff
