Started out early Saturday morning with my buddy David in his '56 Chevy 2-dr hardtop headed for Billetproof in Ypsi...got hung up in the stop-n-go traffic on 275, and didn't roll in to Riverside Park 'til almost 9am...he was pre-registered, and scored lucky #13!...kinda surprised at the very low car count, I believe there were actually more swap meet vendors, (WAY overpriced!), than cars!

Eventually, more cars started trickling in, but, we decided we were going to split early...I didn't take any pics, I had already seen most of the cars there, and the one's that I hadn't, I didn't find interesting enough to take a pic of...alot of '80's street rods, billet wheels, and rat rods...
We waited for a friend of our's who had to deliver a chopper to the Ann Arbor area, walked around once for him to see everything, then split for Milan Dragway...

Milan, on the other hand, was PACKED with race cars and hot rods! I wasn't really expecting that many cars, and quickly filled up the memory card on my camera! I missed taking pics of several altered wheelbase cars, front engine dragsters, and funny cars, because of the memory card...here's just a sample of what was there...:

Great pictures and I'm glad to hear that Milan had a good turnout.

I ran there a few times in the late 60's and just was back there for their fall nostalgia race last year. The track hasn't changed much and is still maintained like it is a park.

I heard thru the g****vine that they are in financial trouble and really hope they can keep operating.

Randy I made it over to Ypsi to check out some cars and was also surprised to see less cars than in shows past. Man Milan was killer did you see the blown flathead fed? That was a great event I would love to see grow. The Bad Banna had one hell of a run while I was there and that altered wheelbase mopar pulled one hell of a wheelie of the line. We all need to hit those g***er show out there over the summer!

Matt, I try and hit as many as I can during the season, didn't see you there, and yes, that FED, the '55, and the Mopar were KILLER...

...unfortunately, one of the best meets around, the Thompson G***er Reunion, is the same day as SOS! I go there when I can, when I can't, I'm at Davisburg!

Thanks for the good report. Glad to see lots of cars show-up. Hope they keep it going as it just takes 5 years these days to get an event established so folks (spectators) plan to attend. Sorry I couldn't have been there but retirement calls.

Looked like a nice event, thanks for the pictures.

  13. It was a tough call for me, but my 10 year old son REALLY wanted to go to Milan, so we went.
Johnny Rotten, we got a pic of Michael with your car, you were talking with someone so I didn't want to interrupt.
One funny thing about Saturday... Michael wanted to see the "Psycho Stripper". That's his favorite car, hands down, and all he talked about. Well, it wasn't at Milan. No biggie I told him, hopefully it will be there in the fall.
We backroaded it home, and as we were marvelling at the huge addition to Lincoln High School (when did THAT happen? LOL), I happened to look up at the four way stop in front of us, lo and behold, there is the Psycho Stripper! His day was made! After a stop at Gibbs Sweet Shop in New Boston, I have to say the kid had pretty much a perfect day. And so did his old man. ;)

Sorry I missed you Randy, and anyone else who was there. We were kinda in our own world. My 'win' of the day... when the Steel City Charger did it's first burnout- we were at the starting line... Mikey looked up when he was done and mouthed "THAT was AWESOME!" I hope he's hooked. LOL

    JK
Oh yeah, el vago- that was me that yelled "Hi RAY!" Friday night in Depot Town from the Mustang convertible...
