Well here it is guys, yet another project to dive full bore into.
After working a deal on this 39 dodge in trade for my 62 fairlane I thought for sure I was inhaling a major exhaust leak.
Here it is as picked up. 39 cab and front clip “stapled” to a 69 GM a-body ch***is. I applaud the previous owner for the vision and effort, but it was time to start fresh.
First and formost I needed to ditch the Pontiac wheels, just were not doing it for me.

Ohhh...beat me to it! hahaha

Congrats on getting the truck. I like those Fairlanes but that truck just has a coolness about it.
I don't think they're ugly at all!!!

On to the pedals, which turned out to be the steering, and cab modification portion of our program.
While sitting on the shop stool thinking about my next move, I realized that before I could get my pedals in I needed to move the column over. I had been toying with the idea of cutting the bottom of the cab down to try and reduce the tallness, also to enable the nose job coming in later posts.
As you guys know lowering a cab 3" will cause all kinds of clearance issues if not planned ahead. So, that’s exactly what I did first. 3" out all the way around. Mucho Better'r!

You're almost done!! Chop on the cab and a satin coat of paint(any color) and a sand & seal the wood. Call the body finished. I'm liking the stance as is. I can't wait to see how you finish this one.

Steering is key, and for me the column needed to be gauge center to look correct. With modifications to the firewall, column, and dash its right where it looks good. It’s not only over but raised about an inch, the late model GM column had to be shortened about 3.5". Even with all of the height and alignment mods done I was able to create a one piece steering shaft, and it all clears!
other pics are of my lower mount.

On to the flat bed removal. Leaving it was considered but I would have completely rebuilt it anyhow so I didn’t see much sense in keeping it. Once I had all of that out of the way I cut what was left of the rear frame horns off.

This is where it got dicey. When I was discussing this project with the previous owner i made mention that i would have to shorten the wheelbase for a standard box to look right. This was the case as the rear axle was about 4" back from the center of the wheel openings on the bed I found for it. So here we go......... time to make GM proud. Factory seem cut, frame rails cut and factory seem recreated.
First pic with bed is before the alterations to its midsection.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Was in need of somewhere to put my feet.......
With such a small cab i found that a few more inches of leg room would sure be nice.
some simple framing and some fibergl*** and we are in business.

Along with some leg room a place for 5 dollar per gallon fuel is needed as well. back frame rail and cell mounts completed.

The last post for the night, and my most up to date progress.
Having a father that can do just about anything on a car came into play on the exhaust. Afternoon at his shop and I was all set, just waiting to get the running boards mounted so we can build the tips.

I am not real sure what year this box is or what it is off of for that matter. One thing i was sure of the gap and fitment on the back of the cab was ****. This was my latest task.

on the list for this week....
radiator mounts, once front clip mounts are fab'd of course.
finish the bed mounts
complete interior sheet metal work
mount seats
geez the list is huge!

Nice work there, your truck shows that swapping frames is not always easy.

No to sure on the color yet, may leave it this summer then tackle that after Bonneville.

I was thinking the same thing on the head lights, haven't made a decision on that yet either.
