SF State had welding cl***es at the campus out off 3rd st... should be something like that in the south bay for ya.
If you are going to work for someone they should have you qualified to start your contiunity. Only time you need to have your own cert's is if you are working as a subcontractor.
I earned my "Certificate Of Welding Qualification" in 1983, from Consolidated Engineering Laborities, 415 Peterson Street, Oakland, Ca 94601. Ph # (415) 533-5814. CEL does a readiographic exam. I qualified flat, horizontal & verticle groove and fillet welds unlimited thickness. Hopefully they are still around.
They're still around along with Smith-Emery, Signet, and a really good outfit called Critical Welding Inspections or CWI, that's who I work for.
More less looking to be a certified welder or at least have something under my belt. I have always worked for shops in the past that never really required me to have any certification. But now getting into to territory where employers ask and want to know if I have any certification for my welding, just seeing my abilities dosent cut it anymore. Im willing to pay the cash and even drive a little out of my way to get it.
In the early 90's my employer needed a certified welder on staff. I was a metal fabricator and welder with that company for several years, before this need came up ,so they sent me to a local com . college with a good welding program to take the welding test for a welding cert. Past the tests for stick and mig/ all positions. That ticket opened a lot of doors later ,for me later in life. I didn't give it up untill after I had retired. ............Jack
