I'm currently an engineer for a die-cast replicas manufacturer... I've been a car/truck collector/restorer off and on since i was a kid. Recently I was tasked with finding a particular truck. We need to photograph & measure it so that we can make a replica... that truck: a 1938 International Harvester D-2 1/2 ton pickup. So in my search I happened upon this fine forum & looks like a great place to find way more info than just where an example of that truck might be located. If you happen to know where i could find such a truck ('38-40 would be fine prolly) within a reasonable radius of Dubuque IA, please let me know. Feel free to email me or just reply to the thread. Meanwhile, I'm going to browse-around the forum, looks like good stuff here!!
just so ya know I have a genuine appreciation for old metal... my current ride: '90 Dakota (Hardly old iron, but antiquish in the technical sense and cost me only $300 +5 cans of spray paint) It'll do till the kids are done with college & I can build something a little more unique.
ok, i read it (sorry, i rarely read instructions from Ikea either, no offense meant)... tell me specifically how I failed the protocol & I'd be glad to correct it. I don't currently "own" any traditional iron, but I've climbed on & under more of it than most people see in a lifetime.
Not trying to be a smart ***,but this is a "Traditionl" hotrod forum...IF I were looking for a 2 1/2 ton pick-up .I think I would go to the INternational truck club website...my 2c If you'd loke to make some die-cast models of "trad hotrods" youre at the right place
we've made our share of those too. it's a 1/2 ton btw, model D-2... one of the ***iest trucks of it's day imo. I came here cuz IH folks don't seem to appreciate the nature of what the D-2 really is, apart from it's ability to haul feed-sacks, haha. I saw found HAMB cuz there was a thread inviting peo to show-off such trucks, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164848 so i hoped y'all weren't opposed to such iron. if i'm in the wrong place I'll trouble no further, no ill-intent meant.
Good looking pickup ... I image they would be ****tered all over the corn fields of Iowa ... is that not the case?
there's a '39 at the I-80 truckstop, working on visiting that... otherwise, hard to find at the moment. Been at this sort of thing for a long time though, & it never fails that AFTER I travel halfway across the nation to measure some old beauty, the exact car/truck turns-up under a tarp three doors down, haha. example, the pic you posted is a beaute! I think it's the same one I saw being offered in MO., called the guy & he sold it four years ago to an old fella in IL. haven't found him yet...
Welcome **** Ugly----I mean CoyoteUgly! Like someone wrote, there are corn fields full of those old trucks in Iowa and Illinois. Ya just have to wade through the corn to find them. Been to the I 80 Truck stop and know a bunch of old men in Illinois. I was one once. Have fun lookin around here and hope you find the truck you are lookin for. The more models built the more happy car guys and boys there will be. And this world needs more happy people than smart ***ed *****s. I realize every forum has rules but no one needs to be degraded and ridiculed for not getting everything right the first time. I've said it here on other posts and I'll say it again, there are thousands of members with things to write. They are just afraid they'll get slammed. Me, at my age I really don't give a **** what anyone thinks! I just keep reading and posting. I'll do my best to follow the rules even if I do make a few old farts unhappy along the way.
I agree that's a great looking truck! I haven't been on this board long but I disagree in saying that the truck isn't HAMB worthy! Thing of beauty!
Welcome from New York. Met a guy once at the Woodward Dream Cruise taking pictures for diecast manufacturers. He took a picture of my 37 Chevy kingcab pickup. Maybe I'll see it on a HotWheels rack some day. When I was designing my build, I made drawings and built my own diecast from a couple of 1/24 scale Ertl models. Did the same with my old 58 Chevy and my current 56 ElCamino conversion only this time I could only find the smaller 1/64 diecast.
hey I found one! Visited the I-80 Trucking Museum in Walcot for pics. Great folks there, neat stuff. it's a '39, but I don't think it's an IH box on it, can anyone confirm??... i have conflicting images from online searches...
