Found this driving around Lexington KY

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kelly Burns, May 26, 2012.

  1. Saw a few cars sitting behind a auto repair place in Lexington Ky today. A couple of junk Chevelles and this car... what is it?

Ford Anglia 105E. It's an English Ford. Made those from 59-67, has a 997cc 4 banger.

  6. I drove back by it, I kindda dig it.

  7. It is not a Consul and it did not have a flathead engine in it and it was built from 1959 to 1968. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Anglia This one looks to be a 105E - or maybe a 123E - Anglia Super from the mid 1960s. The early ones had the 997 cc Kent four in them - which was a short stroke ohv four - but the later ones were 1200s. They were a big seller here in NZ and many were hot rodded and raced because they were light and handled well. Many had bigger versions of the Kent four - 1500cc plus - transplanted and few received small block Ford V8s or English Es*** V6s. They can still be seen racing in the Pre 65 racing series - http://www.pre65.org.nz/pages/photos/photos1.html
More NZ racing stuff here - http://www.theroaringseason.com/showthread.php?95-What-happened-to-all-the-Breadvan-Anglia-s/page4

Several were raced with V8s in them. The one I remember was Neil Doyle's Anglia Corvette - http://www.theroaringseason.com/showthread.php?351-Doyle-****ie-Fastback-Anglia-Corvette/page5

My Dad used to own one of those. Ugly as sin is all I can remember about it. I owned a Cortina about the same time. Positive ground and all. Those English Fords were very hard to find parts for back in the day. No interweb= lots of phone calls.

Is it for sale? I'd grab it just to have something to run around town in.

Those chevelles must be pretty clapped out for you to be looking at that one. I say grab it.

  20. English Ford, Anglia, ohv 4 banger. I think about 1957 to 1959. around 100 c.c.'s later. There was not a huge number of them maybe, but Winnipeg Mantoba had several on the streets that I remember. There was a '57 Vauxhall Grey and green wagon in kirkfield Park, Winnipeg. Chase car! It had a nailhead BUICK in it. Ask anyone who remembers Softys Speed Shop in Winnipeg abour 1962. Crazy fast.....

I had one just like it in high school. You could not tear it up. Put bigger tires on rear and got rubber in every gear. Had a lot of fun with it. As i recall it got between 40 and 50 m.p.g.

I had one of these as a matchbox car when I was a kid. Also they used to have an oval track import cl*** at Hershey Stadium back in the 60s and one of these Anglias was the fastest car of them all,as I recall.
