picked up these super mint fog lamps at an estate sale in Nor Cal this weekend. Manufacturer: S and M Lamp Co. Made in LA! They were wrapped in an LA Times from 1938, headlines talkin' about Hitler takin' over the world... Anywho, NOS in perfect condition, came with switches and perches for a bumper mount application and an instruction manual. Wasnt able to dig up alot of info re: these light, wondering if anyone knew the approximate dates of manufacture and any other info you got on 'em... Suckafree Mike D/OTC/33
I have a pair of (actually three) real cool oval driving lights with a bevel edged lense made by the S & M Lamp Co. But I don't know anything else about them. Try Googling "S and M".
I've been googling s&m for years and never seen any lights. My hand is too tired to continue. Howevery, you might try these guys. http://www.vintage-headlamp-restoration.com/catalogue.htm
I had a set of S & M's that I got at a swap meet a couple years ago, mine had a little red crown on top, like a Unity spotlight had, but with S&M on it. They were neat, would look good on a bomb style lowrider from the late 30's or 40's.
never found too much info on them anywhere...dont really need it, i've just never seen any of 'em around and wondered when they quit producing 'em. i'm probably gonna keep mine either for a rod or bike. a cool piece of art/equipment, made in LA. suckafree mike d
Try here: http://www.google.com/advanced_patent_search I'd set time span for patent application as 1920--1940 to start, then put the S&M (try various forms of that, and, &, etc.) and see what you can track down. I have one of the oval ones, looks like it was made for a '32 spreader with crank bearing removed, but have never found ads or catalog.
If the light is for sale please send info address and shipping to 30052 , do you have any other vintage lights ?? Jim 678 687 6866
Here's my oval S&M. My guess is that these are from the 20s. I didn't realize that they made lights into the late 30s.
I just picked up a S&M light today and its a 955 Series on the lense.Anyone know anything about these?Have on ly one.Maybe motorcycle?? Thanks..
Theres a shop in LA as i remember whitter that buys a nd collects this kind of car stuff his shop was on livin the low life. with miss Vida.
If there's a patent number on them, you can go to the US Patent Office website and search on the patent number. That'll at least give you some idea of their intended use, maybe an application. Chris
He probably forgot by now,. look at the 2009 thread date... , and with only a few posts since 09 on hamb, don't stay up too late waiting for an answer
I also bought a set of S & M fog lamps model 411 and did some research - found out they were in Los Angeles - located at 119 West Thirty - Sixth Place and they started in business in 1909 - they made all kinds of lights - auto - cycle - commercial / industrial and military - as far as when they went out of business - the latest info I found was a calender printed in 1946 ?- haven't been able to find a product list yet - maybe someone who lives in that area can ask some old timers about this company - If I find out anymore info will post it here.
Here's some more to add to the mix. I found these old S&M Lamps in the barn today, tried to Google the company with no luck. They were originally painted black, with a lens number 5632. I'm guessing early 30's. Sure would be nice to find out what they came on.
Just to bump this back up to the top. Here are two s&m lights I have. It would be nice to find out a lot more about s&m light co. Since they were based in LA. California. In the hay day of early cars and hotrods.
Here are some NOS units from a swap meet. The spot lamp was wrapped up in an ancient Three Star Melons wrapper from god knows when; based out of Los Banos.
