Obviously the majority of us here will think this is a poorly named product but lets set that aside, what are your thoughts on this kit? Seems like a bargain at $199, you dont use a clear so I'm wondering the durability of it, I wonder what would happen to the satin finish if you need to color sand an imperfection out? Since there is no clear would color sanding effect the shine? I have limited knowledge in single stage and satin paint. I was considering ppg satin black products however if this is a decent system I would consider it. PPG will cost almost $1000 in product once I get done buying everything. http://www.amazon.com/Satin-Black-Single-Urethane-Primer/dp/B003G51H8A
so i take it a satin clear does not give you any flexibility in a paint repair in the case you need to buff out a blemish, the blemish either stays or gets repainted?
Not sure but I have been told you can wet sand the base before you hit it with the satin clear and still end up with a "flat" job.
You can't sand and rub out dirt specs or the paint will start to shine. You have to live with what you end up with or sand down and reshoot. That kit is primer and flattened single stage with the activators. Actually not a super deal. Your local auto body supply paint house can sell you a gallon of 2K primer and a gallon of single stage black with a 40% gloss, with all the hardeners for about the same price.
I second the #6 post....patronize your local paint shop....Eastwoods stuff probably come from china or Czechoslovakia or who knows. I shop at the local family owned parts place, they sell PPG and also a lesser brand, made by PPG, works great. Plus I have been able to ask some questions and get MSDS sheets no problem. I guess you can tell I'm a believer in buying local!
which is probably the reason its so cheap compared to PPG, probably has lead in it too lol, i think its a good idea to check out a local paint store
I just bought the same kit and was about to ask about rodder's experience with it. I bought it for the durability and the ease of use?
when do you plan on spraying? could you post a picture or two when you are done? that would be appreciated
I used it on my kids truck it's nothing more than single stage urethane with a flattener. It streaks a little and with time in the sun it will even out You cannot sand and buff problem spots. What you spray is what you get. Trust me 26 year painter "should be as durable as any other urethane paint. Best of luck
sem kit is about $70 covers well 2coats and has been on my car for 4yrs outside no garage and still looks good. pain to keep clean though.
i like the look of the sem kit, thanks for bringing it to my attention, do you have any pictures of your car you can post?
