I think the orig. builder was out of Decantur Ill. Looking for info and the builder..... could be around 05-06.. Thank you!
The pic in the other thread appears to be a hardtop, radiused rear wheelwells and no straight axle. I know that could have been changed over the years.
...out of a April 2009 Goodguys Mag., picture of the car on pg. 34 and the name Jack Cook from Evansville, In. I don't know if he's the original builder, but hope this helps you out.
I'm the son of Larry Jones one of the three original owners of MR TUFF. Leon Cook (my uncle) Jim Dorris, (friend) and my dad was the original builders of Mr Tuff but I'm unsure if it was re tagged as Tuff-E-Nuff. If that's been established let me know. I believe the 55 was sold to a fella up in Mt Vernon...Dad can tell me again.. I've got all the mags both...the 55 Tuff was in and the Anglia Mr Tuff. Was supposed to beam them into the hamb but my scanner died! One last nugget...Hot Rod Magazine had a Coffee Table edition of ** Years of Hot Rodding or something like that ...dated 2011...Mr Tuff was in it...as the 1955 Cl*** Champ...I've got Dads Jacket he won for being the Cl*** Champ...wish it fit me! dang nabbet.
I'm not sure who built but I did see it around here around '08-'09. I have some pics of it but it might take me a while to find them .
Hamber "kidburwell" brother from Mt Vernon bought it from ??? don't know. He's said it was the Mr Tuff. So... What can I do for you. It was built in Cooks Garage/Gas Station in Sesser Il. By the three I mentioned earlier. There was a conversation in the old thread about a gl*** or plexigl*** firewall. Dad had no idea of that innovation...was not done in the initial build.
left to right Larry Jones, Jim Dorris, and Leon Cook I would have loved to have seen the original lettering. Dad said they got a guy that painted Bank gl*** doors for the lettering, he used gold leaf for the lettering and they clearcoated over it. An interesting factoid I thought!
Decatur is jsut north of me Jeff and it doesnt look familiar But that doesnt mean it wasnt there . Ill p*** the pictre around to some friends int he area and see if they can kick up some dirt on it.
