I found this site the long way around. I've been posting pictures on Flickr and and wondered who was looking at them. A tag for Colesy Junior Stock Forum came up and led to here. I was a teenager in the '60's living in Texas. The saving grace for me was drag racing which inspired my photography at the time. Too bad I didn't have more money for film and processing, but a lot was spent on gas, pit passes, cheap motels, even plane tickets. Who knew this was the classic period of drag racing? It was just what we did. Would have taken many more pictures but since I shot color and not black & white like the drag papers used, they weren't interested. Besides, most strips and the NHRA had their own phographers and they didn't want some kid screwing around. Their loss. Anyway, I'll be adding pictures and stories to threads as time permits. I quit going to the drags in the '70's-didn't care for the corporate leanings of the day among other things. My buddies Bob Gibson and Jimmy Johnson talked me into going to a nostalgia races at Bowling Green KY in 2005. That's more like it! So you'll see a few old pictures and some newer ones as time goes along. They're good times for me-I hope they are for you too. See you in History drag cars in motion as well as other threads.
I lived in Dallas for 12 years. My dad was transfered there in 1960 from Indy. Lived on the north side near Forest and Marsh Ln and got a dose of some hot cars at Jolly Johns and the Jack in the Box on Forest Ln. Later worked summers at AEECO speed shop where I met a LOT of racers. AEECO owner Murray Oxman sponsored Danny Ongais for a while-nice guy. Also teamed with Bones and Curt Carroll to run an AA/FD. Met the legendary Bill Jenkins one time. He WAS grumpy, but it was a real treat nonetheless. So many names-so many memories. Those drag racing days were great times.
