I don't know the details, but apparently he is putting some super tall power plant in the old car and lacks about 2-inches of hood clearance. Add two inches to the entire top of the hood where it needs it and then let it drop gracefully back to the front and rear. If that makes any sense.
I like scoops, but will agree that the Italian cars look the best. On a fat fender maybe a small reverse in front of the scoop before starting the opening. Would be hard to do and keep it looking correct.
Running out of room for the blower/carbs in your Coupe? I like the look of #11 and #12 and think something like that could be pulled off.... I would be for seriously looking at a smaller profile carb, spacers, intake mill, lower profile air-cleaner, or moving the airbox to the side, whatever it took to modify the engines topside, to stuff it.
Just do the Stone, Woods, and Cook thing and let 'er breath... (of course you've gotta know the rest of the 'theme', 'flavor', 'character', 'style', whatever, of the rest of the car in question) What looks good on "A", might look like **** on "B". (know what I mean Vern.....)
Need more info. What style car? Hot rod? Street rod? Could he pull off a surfer style scoop with a relief cut in the hood?
I'd say run a stylish shaped blister like grimlock urm Kevin lee's roadster had. Could look at blisters made in hood sides to clear hemis in model A's and B's for inspiration?
hood bubbles are good too....would match the profile of the tops of the front fenders on a late 30's Ford.
Sidedraft webers. Your 38 will look funny with a scoop if not done RIGHT. But I have faith in whatever you do.
You talking about molding a scoop into the hood? Or cutting a hole in the hood and having a scoop peek thru?? Gonna be tough to pull off on a 38'..Just hard to picture on that hood. I just hate the idea of a molded scoop on a racy car. Just seems like your trying too hard on a purpose built car... I would consider cutting a hole and have a smaller version of the Greer/black/prudhomme scoop peeking thru. Trimmed up a little different, but same idea.. Getting the angle of the top of the scoop is gonna be tricky regardless. I mean, same line as hood? A little bit more upright??who knows?
Just cut and finish out a hole in the hood and let your stuff show. You'll have to cut anyway or ditch the hood. Real hotrods don't have hoods, except behind the wheel!
See, I think Clarence should see this as a rare opportunity to do something DIFFERENT and TRADITIONAL. However, there is a really fine line between "different" and "Jesus god, what the **** did you do to that car?" And at the end of the day, not even "different" is enough. It has to look right.
Those sportscar bubbles are pure car ****, but for a '38 Ford application I gotta vote for something along the lines of 3dnsouth's solution.
