Well, fixable by me, I mean! I guess it's a character line, I don't know what to call it., but a few inches got hammered flat somehow. This looks like a sticky wicket. I could cut it out, weld a patch, then make a ridge out of wire and weld that on top and throw some bondo on it? I know that's a little hacky but then I am a hack and this requires better skillls and equipment than I have to fix properly. I guess the best way that's feasible for me would be to make a hammerform?(maybe thats what they call it) where you make a relief in wood and hammer the metal in to make a crease or peak? Might be worth a shot! Thanks guys for all the help.
I can testify that shoebox sheet metal is thick as hell. I have a small dent in the roof and I have still yet to hammer it out. Maybe another HAMBer can verify that you'd have to beat the snot out of it to get it to move. 18 gauge steel i believe. Now, that area your dealing with is reachable from the back, but it is awkward to get to. Plus it being on a curve... it ain't gunna move easy. Please bare in mind i am new to the hot rod lifestyle (didnt want to say hobby, cuz i am living it.) My 2 cents. Pick the avenue that you'd be most successful at with your skill set. The alternative, bribe you panel beating buddies with beer and pizza. Worse yet... pay some one to do it.
when your fender was crushed down, the metal bulged out each side so put a jack pushing up and tap down the bulges. that will get you started and will get the correct shape back, then you might try squeezing the T-strip back together, adding metal and grinding the T-strip to shape is last
manyolcars-great idea! I have a few bottle jacks that should fit that area. I'll give it a shot and report back!
Too bad yesterday was garbage day I just tossed the ones I cut off my shoebox. Check around guys are always shaving them for customs they look way better without them anyways.
I agree, they do look better without them but I don't have the time to shave them. here's what I came up with, I added some more bondo and I'm waiting for it to dry. I shoved a cinder block in the trunk and jacked from it, hammerrd and dollied, and welded for fill. Better than it was! thanks fellas! ps I know it ain't perfect but I wanted to post and I'm not done. plus you should see the rest of it. it ain't called the whiskey dent for nothing!
