Yes everyone is en***led to their own opinions. But Im looking to purchase a ch***is. Here is what Im looking for and Im interested in who you would recommend. Im on the west Coast. 32 Ch***is traditional styling, tig welded, four wheel, disk brakes, Ford 9, pinched, and bobbed. Old school type cross member, set up for a small block Chevy with a 700R, for a 30 model A. Who would you sudgest?
Also I want to add I wasn't posting to be a ****, but that what you described might be found another place as the hamb is very "particular"..... anyways, I like Ionia and have heard good things about Black board hot rods.
Doesn't sound too traditional to me...sbc, 700r4, disc brakes....are you using a Fiberglas body also? Might be better off with a street rod company that builds reproduction plastic cars?
There a lot of good companies out there....go to some events, shows etc, look at ch***is, talk to owners, don't fall for the slick ads, get first hand knowledge as this will be a big expense but also the foundation of your whole build. Good luck
Asking advice is a start. Finding the ch***is you desire is going to take some work. Ask to see examples and if possible references. There are plenty of good guys across the country hungry for work and thousands of shysters greedy to take your money.
Sorry you're getting such pissy at***ude responses - at least you're on the HAMB and there's always the hope that you will learn more about traditional hot rodding. Here's a couple for you.... Carl Fjastad Deuce Frame Co. - that's all they do.... www.deuceframe.com/ Or Cl***ic Manufacturing www.cl***icstreetrodmfg.com/
Hotrods By GAZZ. Hes in arlington. Hes been doing them since the 80s and has done more Im sure than anyone in Wa. Gary Sutherland. If interested pm Me ill get his #. FED
Black Board Hot Rods. We just got our frame last week. it's a long wait but its well worth it. He's very reasonable and does tremendous work.
I'd agree with the guys who say Ionia Rod Shop. They do a neat X member with belled holes and other details that looks old-style, but should be as strong as a tube crossmember. Most anybody can do the other mounts/brakes stuff, but these guys add a flair that makes stuff look like it belongs. And they're kinda up Nort, like you are.
Jeez, get El Polacko to make you one. He was modest enough to respond with good advice but he really is the best on here. Easily.
I guess the word traditional styling created a bit of a stirr. This is not my intent. I'm just looking for advice.......Yes I realize that .......yes I'm less Traditional than others. We are all still brothers with the same p***ion. Cheers
Blackboard in Bakersfield. Gary has built two for me and soon a third. Great guy, extremely honest Joe
yes i to hate reliability, ease of finding parts, decent mileage, and safety. those things are lame. you brought up the fibergl*** body. ***.
Have elp make you one. If you want one from a magazine ad type outfit el polacko's advice was the best, look at examples of their work and find folks with one of their ch***is under a car with some miles on it and ask questions.
I will get some flack for this.... TCI, or Total Cost Involved. A loaded stainless ch***is with the options you want is right around 11K. That includes a third member, stainless brake lines, everything plated or polished, etc, etc Some will ***** aobut the "square" rails. I don't like them either but on a full fendered car it doesn't matter. Not sure which way you are going. Some complain about their quality as well, I have done at least 10 turn key cars with a TCI ch***is and a handful of ch***is swaps and every one of them has driven great and been rock solid reliable for the customer. Now, that is out of the way. Really, I mean, REALLY, ask yourself what you want this car to do for you. If the most important thing is a certain look, that will be a different formula than if the most important thing is drive it cross country trouble free. Donny
5 or so times for Elpolacko... and that's from a guy that build stuff in the same city! 602 278 6800 will get you the best of the best!
No one's said it yet, so I will. http://www.brucesrodshop.com/ They know just a few things about what you're trying to do. Heck, they probably know more about doing '32 frames than most. Check out Bruce's personal ride. Everyone hopes to own something that nice someday.
Ed & Chris at New Age Motorsports, in Connecticut if you don't care if it is shipped out west. They just did my Dad's 32 HiBoy Ch***is, incredible detail. And a great price.
