I've seen a few posts about using the Mustang radiators in Deuce grille shells. Sounds interesting and I'd like to know if anyone has any pics showing how they fit and maybe some details on the brackets. Front and rear views would be nice.
I don't have any photo's of any , but just for info about fit... I picked a up a mustang radiator yesterday, and it appears it will be a nice tight fit in my 28 grille, even with room to shorten the shell if needed.
C9- these really only work for heavy channeld or chopped grill situations - they are really short compared to the stock 32/31 height - like 5 inches short, I forget the exact dims. Are you choppin yours?
I had a phot of a duece grill and rad but they must be in my shop computer. Maybe pm 29EHV8 I know he uses these raditators all the time. link to pictures and dimensions http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=4561625215
Here's a front on shot and the best shot I have of the inside. I can take more but things are a little cramped and I may not get the best shot. I had to have my lower outlet on the radiator changed for the nailhead. Otherwise it is mounted with a piece of 3/4" sguare tubing with a foot welded on the bottom. The foot has two rubber bushings in each side. If you do it this way you don't need the bars that run for the rad to the firewall. Clark
lemme see if I have some pix. Mine is in a chopped down 32 shell but I put a 27 shell around it and still had plenty of room. Heres a descent pic of the fit. Anyhow I went with standard 2 X 2 angle off the frame with a .375 hole through the middle on eack rail. made some mounts that come down to feet that match the holes and mount to the radiator on the side mounting flanges with 2 bolts a side. It isnt stiff enough with just that but I am gonna run rods from the grill to the firewall for the extra support. I could take omre pix this weekend but you'll have to wait until monday to see them.
Clark can you get a side view of your mounting system. It looks like you used a piece of flatbar and made some triangular gussets to stop it tipping back and forth. I have to design this for my car today.
My 32 grille shell is not chopped, but the sides are cut 2" so the shell can slide down 2" for the correct cowl/hood/shell visual flow. I'm more curious than anything. I've had a couple of locals ask me about it and I don't know much other than some guys use the Mustang rad. I think I have almost enough quarters saved to buy a new radiator from US or the like . . . if I'd quit going to Laughlin and tossing quarters in the slots... I don't go there too often, but Friday I won enough for dinner for three at the Flamingo Casino. That doesn't happen often, but I seldom lose more than $10. or so. Funny part is, every time I give Sweetie money to gamble she heads for the gift shop and buys a bracelet or earrings. Did I mention she's way smarter than I am?
They work really good when you flip them upside down..... The bottom tank is smaller and it has a nice slope to it, so when its flipped it looks like a small, early ford radiator... A radiator guy will put the inlets where ever you need and flip the filler for around $50. So basically for less than $150 you can end up with a custom radiator....
never even thought about flipping it over...thanks for the idea. may let me tuck it up higher in the shell.
