Hot Rods Aussie Hot Rods in July '63 Rod & Custom?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy B, Dec 21, 2009.

  1. There is meant to be two famous Aussie Hot Rods featured in the July '63 Rod & Custom? The cars were Darrol's Finger's '34 5w and Darryl Harvey's '34 roadster. Can some one confirm this and maybe scan the article?
    Cheers
    Jimmy

  2. Here is Darryl Harvey's '34 roadster today. Now owned by David Green. My hat is off to David for preserving such an icon when it is common for old hot rods to be updated by numb-nut owners.

Jimmy, I don't have the R&C feature but I do have an Aussie feature from Oct '66 Car Craft that features a few iconic Aussie cars you might find interesting.
    Cheers Charlie.

Jimmy the third car in the photo we believe is the Rip Kirby channeled 32. It is now unchanneled and lives here in town. Eddie is looking for his other photos Taken at the same time for further verification

Yes thats right Phil. Yellow hi boy.

  10. That'd be a sweet car to clone.
Thanks Phil Stevens- real good Riverside shot on page 2 of the HR article. I was 8 months old then !

  11. Great article Charlie, thanks for posting.

I would like to see some pics of how it ended up. I have heard it is being rebuilt similar but with Y block power. Darrol Finger's 5w is one of my favourite early Aussie rods.

    Cheers Phil. Great article.

That was a great early rod. I really look forward to the day these early rods are returned to their roots. My hat is off to people like David Bowden who had Rod Foote's roadster restored, pictured top right.

Engine in Darrol's car was a 57 Dodge Poly not a Studebaker. Check out Phil's scan of the article.

  16. If stovebolt got the info you need.
ill try and sort out those pics i had coming of it while it was with us.

  17. Swifty,

There was talk of a studebaker 8 being in it or going in it?
I picked up on the diffrence when I read the article too.
According to Jimmy it'll be Yblock powered now?
It was brush painted yellow when it showed up at our shop.

  18. Last pics I saw of the coupe was when it was at TCR. It looked to have a Y block and there was mention of said engine been planned. I didn't look too closely at the pics to see if it was a Y block or Stude as I was a little disappointed a Poly wasn't being used in the rebuild. I had the pics saved but haven't found them.
