Big Block Chevy with finned Mickey Thomspon Valve Covers Crane Gold Rockers?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BOSTONCAMARO, May 30, 2012.

  1. I just picked up a set of early finned 427 logo MT BBC valve covers, we may put them on my dads car.

The oil drippers were removed and the car is running Crane Gold Race Rockers and Polylocks.

I have heard of people running the early covers with spacers, what do you think needs to be done?

Seems I need about 3/4 of an inch total in order to make the MT covers the same overall height as the Moroso Chrome covers that we know fit.

I am sure someone here has done this, please school me and pics would be helpful!

    Thanks, Tim

You need a pair of cast aluminum spacers, like you mentioned. Probably available through Summit or Jegs.

I use the MT covers and I run roller rockers on my BBC. I thought I would need the spacers, but they fit as is without. So you don't need the spacers. But I have a set you can buy if you want them.

  4. yeah, my dads motor has close to a 700 or so roller in it, so we will have a lot of rocker movement, how much are the spacers and how thick are they? send me a PM

    thanks, Tim

  5. G'day all, Ansen is still selling their valve covers and spacers on Ebay under the name SouthbayGlobal. Nice product at pretty good prices.

I have a .680 roller and mine clear. If you have a girdle you will need the spacers.

  7. Hello, Hi

So are you running MT covers with only the drippers removed and no spacers, what rockers are you using?

    thanks, Tim

  8. seems a few people have used the MT covers with full Aluminum Roller Rockers without a problem and did NOT have to use spacers, just remove drippers....

anyone else here have experience with this?

I never use spacers,If you need more room just use 2 gaskets per side. I've never had a issue doing this.

if you need just a little extra clearance, Mr Gasket makes a gasket that is 5/16" thick. Part number on that is 5863.

I think the spacers were just for girdles I ran as much as 780 lift with those covers. I do seem to remember double gaskets at one point but that was back in the late 70's early 80's after that we ran tall covers with a girdle, because to get more lift some is taken off the heel as well as adding to the toe of the cam.

  12. so with the thicker gaskets, I should more than likely be ok?

thanks a lot for posting and sad to say it is not even in a hamb approved car :( it is a 68 Camaro, but is done with a G***er, early street machine flavor...sidepipes etc

Ironically the car I was talking about with the 780 lift cam and M/T valve covers was a 67.

The spacers are like 3/4 or 1" tall. I have MT covers without drippers and rollers fit. I also had tall moroso covers and I didn't think MTs would fit. The spacers give you that nice tall look back. Got ur pm Tim.

  16. yeah, I am thinking we will be fine without spacers, going to get some 5/16 gaskets

    thanks
