Wheel Help... What would you do?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocket's Hot Rod Garage, May 31, 2012.

  1. Ok. I know it's a bit new for the HAMB but just thought i'd try. The customer decided he wanted some sort of aftermarket wheel after we told him his 14" wheels would not clear the new brakes. The car is sorta between the cruiser & muscle car eras. I know I don't what no Big billet junk. Just something subtle and natural looking.

    So what would you do?

How much room do you need to clear?

  4. Cruiser for sure. I don't think magnums or whatever would look right. Just something right for the era.

  6. There is room for up to a 16" wheel or so. We're not wanting to go to crazy with sizes but there is room.

Car would look good with Torque-thrust or similar but if you have the 5 on 4 1/2 lug pattern plenty of steel wheels out there that will fit it.

Torque thrusts or steelies w/dog dishes & redlines.

  12. I appreciate all the ideas thus far.

We'd thought about torque thrusts with redlines Or some 14" steal wheels via Granada with similar skinny whites & some sort of Mid 60's Merc caps.

Those two are in the lead so far. I just hope we can get the owner on board.

  13. We've already installed an IFS from Heidts so the car sits way right.

If you do torq thrusts, I wouldn't do the modern curved polished version. I would try to go with the older style that is now avail again with cast/painted centers. Personally, I think a good old fashioned 15x7 and 15x8 Cragar SS would be perfect on that car.

Older style torques thrusts or Ansen slots if you can find 'em.

If later model 14s will clear the brakes he could keep the stock tires and hubcaps, if that is what he wants.

  20. That is a *****en look that I like but I don't think the customer would be on board.

  21. chrome steelies & skinny whites might be an easy sell!
