I'm a seller or a wanna-be. I just sold and sent a pr of '39 Chev. bumpers to Florida on Greyhound. Thats the cheapest way for large heavy parts. They will arrive in a 1 1/2 days @ $75.00. He payed by pay pal. Communicate with the buyer is a must. I hope he leaves me some kind of feedback on my listing. After 6 yrs on Ebay and their BS fees I have been looking for a different selling site.

I share all of the same sentiments all of you have posted, I have bought quite a few things from fellow HAMBERs since registering on the site, and sold a couple too! It's refreshing to hear all of you writing the same thing I bitch about from people I buy from normally, no tracking number, no contact etc. I always forward the tracking number, useually with a picture of the cashiers check or postal money order so the guy knows that it's coming, and he should have my stuff ready to go when the payment hits his mail box. I know sometimes we have all had things not work out quite right for getting things out the door as a seller, or getting it packaged (large items) or to a shipper right away, life happens, but too many of these is not a good thing..... Glad to be amongst some guys with my same values........

Just remember though - the HAMB is not solely a classifieds web site for people to sell and take only to profit and not give anything in return.
If guys come here to sell only - they are removed.

Giving back means getting involved in the main HAMB board and share knowledge , projects and stories.

The best win - win is to become a Alliance Member.
You get great discounts from suppliers and the HAMB gets financial support to the up keep of the web site.

    Thanks,

  4. It's real simple!

If your selling something, make yourself available at all times, before and after the sale.

You get the cash. Send them the item in a timely manner, packed as you would like to recieve it.

The deal is not over after you've shipped it. It's over after the buyer recieves it and is a happy camper.

    Make Yourself Available!

I just want to add to all your comments on this subject. I am the happy buyer of the bumpers that were part of this subject. I am well pleased with the way the transaction was handled. This seller is a great person to deal with. He kept me informed each step of the way, was flexible, honest, and did an excellent job packaging the items. I also was impressed with how quickly Greyhound shipped and the cost was low. I'll remember this when I ship something to someone. This was my first buy from this web site. Now I feel more confident that I will get an honest deal and not get ripped off from the H.A.M.B. classifieds. Oh by the way, I have contributed to other things on this site besides buying things.

  6. As an international member here ( New Zealand ) I have bought items from Hambers via the classifieds many times . My personal experiences have all been great until just recently when I had a seller "stall" on me so I walked away.

I usually ask the seller to use USPS as it seems to work best for me.

I always keep communication frequent and clear , and always advise the seller when the goods have arrived safely .

I Always use paypal and make payment immediately after confirming I want the item ( i.e. well ahead of anything being shipped) .

The only hiccup I've had here (hamb) with regard to buying parts happened
just recently , Item advertised in the classifieds , I PM'd an offer and was told "Yes , I will accept that " I asked for shipping and paypal details to which I was told "money order only" . I explained that money order was a hassle at my end , versus paypal I could process imediately - I also offered to pay the fees , and offered to give a list of Hamber's I had bought from previously that he could contact to verify I was a decent guy !
The Seller replied " I will think about it" ......

I waited a few more days with no progress , so told the seller " I can see you are obviously still uncomfortable about it , so just leave it " .

Anyone else had a similar experience ? While I understood the idea of an international sale might intimidate some people I was thinking " The parcel goes to the same place to be dispatched , and the seller gets paid in US Dollars - BEFORE my parts are sent, so what's the big problem?

Sorry about the long story !

I've bought and sold many many parts overseas from the HAMB. I prefer paypal, but on other sites it's protocol for the buyer to add 3% to cover their fees. Here it seems people get angry that you would add 3% There are ways to get around that, but is that morally correct??

I have been accepting more and more postal MO's from US buyers, and I like them. They are easy for the buyer and seller. I receive them, and cash them right on the spot.

I am sea duty in the Navy ramping up for deployment and this last shipment has had terrible delays which I am not proud of. I must say, communication is key. Everyone who purchased parts from me got an email saying my work schedule had changed. I would ship the parts out in the next 3 days, or would see if my wife could stop by the post for me. Turned out I had a few minutes after a medical appt to take care of it and the parts were shipped with only a small delay. As a buyer I appreciate the same communication. I understand things come up, but when you have my money, you better be PM'ing me back.

Thanks for all of the great information. I know nothing about Pay Pal or shipping parts. Everything I've received has been through magazine adds or picked up at swap meets. And except for well known dealers I picked those up in person.
I am getting older and have to start thinning out my junk. I really don't want to start yet because that's not why I am here. At least I do have a better understanding. It is getting more difficult to trust strangers, or even friends , now days. I got screwed trading a fellow club member/ friend cars several years ago so know it can happen easy.
Buying from swap meets, adds in Hemmings, etc, have been exceptionally good experiences with good old fashioned car guys. But they are getting few and farther between.
With the things I've read here I feel I could trust most members. I do agree, checking the posts they've made and their profile tells a lot.
    Happy hunting.

  10. All great comments. I've been pretty lucky with HAMB purchases. Many if not most of the deals have resulted in Friend Requests...Very Kool.

We could consider an Ebay style "Feedback" procedure on buyers and sellers. Although nothing suggested would be foolproof, it would be a basic guide to how others handle transactions.
