Not wanting to drill more holes in the dash. I glued a rare earth magnet to the bottom of it. Unlike a new car lots of places for a magnet to stick.
on evilbay theres one with a magnet on the bottom for like $30. i thought about buying so i didnt have to drill a hole in my dash! lol
Would have helped to tell us what kind of car you have. Many have a garnish molding screw around the windshiled where they mount. The magnet idea sounds great.
Mine screws in where the window garnish hole is, no need to drill anything. If ya got shiny paint you can just look at the light reflection in your hood. Works the same and you dont have to buy anything...
We think alike, Richard. I have one of the old Guide viewers that was specific to my Poncho (at least I think it is specific to the Poncho). It Has an art deco style mount. I can't bring myself to drilling a hole in my dash so I will be epoxying a few rare earth magnets in the base, then fill the underside smooth so I can glue on some felt. Chris
I also have the garnish mount type, but I found it difficult to mount in a position that actually helped view the traffic light, so keep that in mind before springing for one.
Looking at the reflection in shinny paint works just make sure of which traffic light you're looking at.
For a day or two. The suction cup ones fall off after a while. I bought a nice Guide unit several years ago and have never mounted it.
I bought one and have never installed it, but my recently aquired vintage Cal-Custom 40-44 carb scoop works great as a stop light viewer at night.
I also have the cheap suction cup one, and even with my stiff suspension it's hanging on. I figured if it did drop off eventually I'd just superglue it to the glass at that time.
and to think Uncle Scott used to hang his dentures on his 53 Chev's Guide viewer just to impress us kids? As yellow as those teeth were, you sure as hell couldn't see the traffic light!
Yeah but a PITA in this if you are first in line. I had one of the fifteen dollar ones years ago with my old 34 P/U and it seemed it was always on the floor when I came back to the garage. They work well. No craning of my neck to see when it changes.
I've used one of the cheap suction cup ones for a couple of years now and it does OK. I bought a new guide last year and haven't had the nerve to drill my newly painted dash yet.
I just piss everyone off behind me by staying back some, so I can see the light with my own 2 eyes. hey im getting older, and i dont really care who I piss off any more..(any more then i ever did) plus it keeps you out of range of flying parts, and cars when the asshole texter decides to plow into the guy sitting out front under the light. but hey, the magnet idea is a keeper
