sat-sun look good I'm hoping they would rool sunday into a rainday if friday was a bust c'mon out johnny hope to see ya
Look forward to finally checking out your Opel. We'll be there early morn if all goes as planned. Weather report changed a little..... Friday still "iffy" ..... 70% chance of rain. Saturday's chance of rain is down from 30% to only 10% ..... with temperatures in the high 60's. Should be pretty comfy for both us & the gassers!!!!
The car is ready, the trailer is ready, got a little more to do to the golf cart and truck, wash 'em all, load 'em up and hit the freakin' road!
Just show up and we'll worry about the weather later. I don't believe you've ever been to TRP, and I'm getting tired of waiting on you.
we are loaded and had planned to head out tomorrow..but with Rain on Friday,we may hold off another day.anticipating Saturday/Sunday. Thompson Raceway just posted it will be a Sat./Sun event.. Rick
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attention Racers and Fans This weekend we will be hosting our annual "Gasser Reunion" June 1st and 2nd. In the event that we encounter any rain delays the remainder of our program will be finished on Sunday, June 3rd. If we experience a rain delay resulting in a cancellation of Friday or Saturday's event your general admission tickets will be valid the following day. This event will be a completed event this weekend.
Bob; Your just another none believer of internet posting. I took it off their web page. see you Saturday.. ==============================================
So GLAD to hear about this. Even though I am NOT bringing the Opel I understand why some racers, especially "long haulers" would balk at traveling long distances for what looks like could be only "one day of racing" if Friday's weather forecast is accurate. I am sure some of you will remember the one year when there was a similar situation. It was our first trip to Thompson for the "reunion" .... had hotel reservations & my hot rod wife (Gina") & I were filled with excitement to be going. The weather forecast was for heavy rain all day Friday with more rain in the forecast off & on for the entire weekend. We got to the strip early Friday morning to find there was heavy rain overnight yet the sun was shinning and the pit crew was working on the track. For the rest of the weekend the skies were sunny, temps on the cool side, without a drop of rain. Hope things will do the same this year. But if not, it is good that Thompson has officially made Sunday a "rain day". Hopefully it will NOT be needed. Everyone have a safe trip!!!! Look forward to seeing everyone there!!!!
Ypu know you are a dragracer when the forecast calls for rain but you load the car and head to the track because you believe that it will NOT be raining there
Last year the forecast kept me home but Art (550coupe) went and had zero rain with lots of track time. I should have just went but sit home like a chicken little...lol
Not this year Swade. Just checked the weather....90% rain for tomorrow and 80% for Saturday, 63% for Sunday. At around 6pm there were thunderstorms in Cleveland and moving east. Doesn't look good but I'm packed and ready to go.
I am IN Cleveland and there was ZERO rain at 6:00 pm. It's still dry at 11:00 pm. Calling for rain overnight slowing to occasional light showers Friday afternoon. Hell man, forecasts change constantly. I'll check again late Friday morning by looking out the window. Still plan to start out late Fri. morning.
, WoW.... Such words of wisdom .... and so TRUE !!!!! Reminds me of a few years ago when Pittsburgh Raceway Park (Formerly Keystone Raceway Park) held its annual Pittsburgh International Dragway Reunion (Pittsburgh's first dragstrip - Go To: http://www.pittsburghinternationaldragway.com/) - . Each year lots of the guys who raced at PID and quite a few of the cars that they raced back in the day come to the event which gets better each year. Anyway.... That year "Big Daddy" Don Gartlis was scheduled to be there with one of his Swamp Rat cars. Meeting Big Daddy was on my "bucket list" so we were really looking forward to going to the reunion. Just like now, for a week or so I watched the weather report hoping for sunny skies and moderate temps. The day came & when I woke up it was raining and the forecast was for rain ALL DAY & for the rest of the weekend. Despite the steady rain & forecast we still went ..... had a GREAT time. Had the time to visit with old friends. Because of the rain not many people were there so we had the opportunity to not only meet Don, hear the Swamp Rat run, but were able to have a long uninterrupted conversation with one of the "greatest drag racers" of ALL time. As you know things get so hectic at events that very often you do not get "quality time" to spend with friends or even check out any of the cars. From checking out the other "Thompson Gasser Reunion threads" there is a LOT of interest to see the reemergence of "Ohio Geroge Montgomery's" Hurst Gasser Passer that was recently rescued from a garage where it was hidden for 30 years. Of course the bad news is rain is STILL forecast for today - lots of it .... only good news (if you're optimistic) is the chance of rain DECREASES as the day goes by.... and the weather is going to be much better for both Saturday & Sunday. So in true drag racer form we'll be seeing you soon!!!!
how many race cars usually show up for this event? going to try and make this one or the one at beaver springs next weekend.
Not sure of a number.... LOTS!!!! Hundreds for sure..... travj31.... where in Western PA do you live???? We live in the South Hills.... just outside of Bridgeville not far from St. Clair Hospital. We LOVE going to Thompson!!!! Have NOT been to Beaver Springs yet so I cannot give you any advise about that place or how the "Gasser Reunion" held there is since it moved from Thompson a few years ago. Hope to somehow see you there.
I'm about 40 min way from you up 51 in Uniontown... I have alot of family from the south hills so I'm down your way pretty often. I'm planning on coming down next Saturday for the PID reunion cruise at Quaker Steak (unless I go to BSD). Last year, I went out to BSD and they had about 100-125 race cars probably.
I did NOT hear about the PID Reunion Cruise at Quaker Steak (Pleasant Hills or ????). When is it???? NEXT SATURDAY????? Only PID Reunion Cruise I know of is the one at SONIC in Bridgeville in late July. Jim S. & Bill Truby helped to organized it. I was there with the Opel last year. It was a GREAT cruise night!!! I am NOT GOOD with numbers but I'd be willing to bet when Thompson held the Gasser Reunion/Nationals more cars were there than at Beaver Springs It is a nice ride to Thompson from our area.... have stayed overnight for both days & also went for just the day. That is what we are going to do this time.... will be leaving home before 6am tomorrow which will get us to the drag strip right around the time "time trials" will be starting.... Once we check out the all the cars, etc we tend to prefer sitting next to the guard rail right on the starting line..... we just "LOVE that smell"!!!!!! If you decide to go I can PM you my cell phone number.
The cruise is scheduled for Saturday, June 9th. Jim Senkewitz is once again one of the major promoters/organizers. From what I understand, Quaker Steak is in the process of opening up a newly decorated PID room and this will be the grand opening night for it. The original PID XMas tree will be there, pictures, memorabilia, etc... Hopefully they will get a great turnout like the Sonic cruise last year. As long as the weather is nice, I'll be there in my black 29 roadster with hopefully some other members of The Redliners CC. Look us up...
Talk to a friend last night that is currently at Thompsons. He got there at noon yesterday and his registration number is 91. There were plenty of cars that got there after him so you be the judge of how many will show up. This is an awesome event and this year will be no exception. Besides, the gasser passer will be there for everyone to see after to many years in hiding.
WoW!!! Good number so far ......with plenty more to come. Haven't been there since Gasser Mag did the move to "Summit/Norwalk" a few years ago.
I'm loaded up and on my way out the door. I heard this morning the number was up over 110. Should be there by 3pm. RAIN RAIN GO AWAY!!
