Reputable Salvage Yards

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldcarmike, Jul 22, 2005.

  1. I'm looking for a pair of doors for my '50 Packard. They need to be from a 48-50 2 door or convert and I want some input on good reputable salvage yards in the Midwest or ones that'll ship.

Anybody got some names and phone numbers?? Thanks!

Man,Packards can be tough because parts are expensive, but the Packard guys are also extremely well organized. If you can, find a copy of the Cormorant, the Packard monthly publication-lot's of parts places in there. Hemming's might be helpful, too. My buddy has a lot of Packard info-I'll check and see if I can get a line for you.

I'd go with Flat Top for your parts.I have heard nothing but good things about that guy.Whatever you do stay clear of that yard on I-35 in Sanger Texas.I think its called triple A auto ranch. He has atleast one of every car made from '75 back, but he will screw you if he gets the chance.

Hey Mike, Just last night, I was looking thru my Hemmings almanac. I live in Kansas City and was checking out salvage yards in Mo. and noticed a yard that specializes in old packards in Tremble, Mo.. Tremble is just north of Kansas City. The almanac is dated 1999 so I don't know if they are still open. Worth a try. Good luck, Tbob

hell yea, Bob is the man to see for most of your early tin needs...

one thing i really thought was sweet,,, Bob took the time to ask me where i was going with my car, and if there was anything out of the ordinary i was looking for... part shipped well, and the removal was CLEAN. piece not bent all to **** or flame wrenched off the donor

  11. Gentlemen!!

Thanks for all the info. I'll be starting the hunt next week and now I've got some places to check out.

You know, you see all these places in the web, in Hemmings nad such but I'm always a little leery about dealing with somone unknown. I got ripped off for about $250 on some '42 GMC parts a few years back by some woman in Cheyenne, so I'm a bit gun-shy now. Having some recommendations from the HAMB sets my feeble mind at ease.

Now I just have to unload a pair of primo front doors for the '50 after I find the 2 door stuff. That and the '58 235 and 4 speed (truck) I trip over all the F-ing time, the 2 Fentons 5 on 5 & 1/2's, the locked up 351, the Ford 6 cylinder distibutors, the '73 318, the 73 AMC 258, the - well, you get the picture. Boxes o'stuff that need to be sold. Maybe I'll find a ba*****t and garage floor whenI'm done...
