Picked this up a couple months ago to have something to work on over the winter. We were also looking for cars for my son, so he goes from looking at a Scion TC to falling in love for the 50 I brought home. Our plan is to turn it into a mild custom.

    Our list of mods are:
    1) Shave trim, door handles and trunk.
    2) French headlights, tail lights and antenna.
    3) Paint a dark dark metallic green with a pearl white top.
    4) Wide whites on black steel rims.
    5) Put bench front seat back in.
    6) Disc brakes in front.
    7) Reupholster in white and green.
    8) Re-chrome bumpers and grill.

This is the first project that we have attempted, we are not professionals by any means. Let the fun and frustration begin.

Very cool cool & looks to be in great shape! Wish my old man would have been into cars, took me 27 long years to be able to get my own but now I'm hooked!

I cannot get the pics to post, so here is the link.

Got the frenching rings from Shoebox ford, tacked some nuts onto the fenders and bolted the buckets on from inside wheel well, slotted adjusting screws and drilled back of buckets and inserted electrical box plugs to seal holes, we can adjust headlights without removing buckets. Recessed the headlights about a 1/4".

Next up is the tail lights, got the buckets yesterday. Will be starting on this tomorrow.

Great that you could convert him from tuners to customs, no small feat! Inclined to prefer bench over buckets too, but just looking at them, they could be worse, with the headrests deleted and upholstered suitably period w/ matching back seat they actually wouldn't look bad. Super that you will get to do this one together, have fun!

It's going to be his daily driver, so we are looking to get it on the road by spring. Tight dead line will keep us moving.

Already got a bench seat off of ebay, it just looks so much better with the original seat.

  19. If your going to have a Young Gun driving it daily do yourself a favor and put electric wipers in it. I used a Specialty Power unit and no regrets. Took a little doing being they said it couldn't be done. That gave me a challenge so I made it look stock including the stock knob.

Luckily it is already installed. We just had to fix the leaking windshield, the first time he drove in the rain his feet were soaked.

That's pretty close, he wants a darker green, almost black. Yours looks very nice.

Been working on and off on the Shoebox, did a little body filler on headlights and tail lights. Coming along slowly, currently working on removing the paint, then blocking the panels.

Well, time to get back to work on the car. My buddy decided he wanted to race so I became his mechanic so I've been busy with getting the car ready. We were Chump car racing and finished 20th out of 47 cars on Saturday and then on Sunday finished 14th out of 39. Not bad for a first try. Then life got in the way, daughter graduated college and my youngest graduated middle school so the house needed some work for the parties.

Now it's done so I shaved the trunk today. I need to hammer out some dents that were filled in with filler, that will get done later this week.

    Here is the trunk.

After a little hiatus we changed direction slightly and had an opportunity to have Gene Winfield chop the car with the help of Voodoo Larry and The Hot Rod Ins***ute. It was done at the Chicago Autorama and is currently just tacked up. We are hoping to get this on the road by May 2016.
As long as life doesn't get in the way too much it should be doable. Here are some pics of our progress.
