Picked this up a few years ago at an antique shop near Fulton, IL. I think it was painted to match a real tow truck as whoever did the lettering was no slouch and it seems a little over the top just for a kid's toy although it does have some play wear. Anybody from that area remember a "Noble's Garage"?
I don't know anything about Nobles Garage but EVERYTHING you need to restore that truck is available. It has character as it sits but would be a little stunner restored. Mind me asking what you had to pay for it? JH
I plan to replace the missing pieces but otherwise it's staying just the way it is, there are plenty of "stock" ones out there. I paid $30 for it about 5 years ago. We were just about ready to leave when I looked behind what I call yard sale **** and there it was, it was love at first sight. I grew up between two wrecker services in the 60's and have always had a fascination for old tow trucks........ big and little. It has to have some history behind it, I'm hoping to find it.
There is a truck for sale on ebay that might interest you: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1946...Cars_Trucks&hash=item46043e5492#ht_500wt_1183
WOW, the power of the HAMB strikes again! Where else can you post a picture of a toy and someone will show you the real deal.
Yeah, especially since the original post was from 2008 I P.M.ed Rudebaker to give him a heads up. I bet the guy on ebay would be interested in seeing this toy as well hope they make a connection.
Yeah....It kinda makes up for not doing an intro. Very cool. It would be even better, if the two trucks were reunited.
"Says" hes from Texas the truck is in Illinoise,Could be but I kind of doubt it. I figure he saw the truck, liked it and googled the name on the door and came across this thread on the HAMBAmazing either way anyway.
I bet sell883 doesn't even exist. He's like Santa. Just drops in when needed and then he's gone.do do do do!
I'm with you. I contacted the seller, he knows nothing about Noble's Garage. He bought the truck at an auction about 3 years before I bought the Tonka version. At least I know it was in Fulton now. I would LOVE to get my hands on the doors off that thing!
Well the fng did better than me. I only found the obit for Helen Wythe, she was a bookkeeper for the Noble Garage. http://glimpsefulton.blogspot.com/2007/08/helen-wythe.html
Hmmm....Would this wrecker hoist and bed be era correct for the tow truck, or is it too new? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Antique...m=190680898125&pt=Other_Vehicle_Parts&vxp=mtr
The guy that's trying to sell the truck most likely! I have a friend that is a hugh collector of all eras of Buddy L toys and all the old ones he has have decal lettering. HRP
