Hey HAMBsters what is the importance of having the "***le" when purchasing a vehicle in the USA? I see ads for cars saying they have the original ***le. Different down here in australia.
***le is required by law for all vehicles. Some exceptions made for states in which ***les were not required up into the mid-70s.
Having a ***le will allow you to prove ownership of a vehicle. The vehicle identification number (VIN) on the ***le must match the number stamped on the frame. Some of the early cars used the engine number for the VIN; which if this is what happened and the engine has been changed, there is a compromise of the numbers.
Are you talking about the ***le that was issued when the vehicle was first purchased from a dealer when new? If so its nothing more then a cool piece of paper. A ***le in the current owners name is what is needed to prove ownership. Not absolute, but as long as the numbers match the car, its as good as you are going to get.
Hi Max , If you are thinking about purchasing a car to import to australia you need a ***le,no fibregl*** or kit cars unless your importing a corvette. Kit cars are cl*** as new vehicles and cop full duty. There clamping down on highly modified too. Cheers Steve.
Rego dept over here don't want to know you if it's imported with out a ***le.One of the first things they asked for, Recently got my model A through ,trouble free (***le in hand). Regards Dave
