A bone body rivets

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wideglide74, Jul 23, 2005.

  1. I am having the sheetmetal work on my A rpu done by a talented old school sheetmetal guy and next up is the cowl. The firewall has been torched out and it's cracked all over but very dry, I have a rusty cowl with a perfect firewall for him to swap out but as I'm a kook (thats why this car is taking forever) I really want to replace the rivets that need to be removed in the process. Chuck is very open to my ideas but I need to find replacement rivets... Anybody have a source for old ford rivets? I'd like to use them in a few diffrent spots on the cab...

I don't know where to get the rivets but they are available. An eaiser solution is to use bumper bolts. I restored a '53 Harley sidecar (black) for a guy once, & at my suggestion he replaced the rivets with chrome bumper bolts & BOY that thing was SHARP! You can use chrome or pickup the same kind of bolt at the hardware store. Of course if it's a totaly original restoration you'll want to use rivets... If it was me & it's a rod I'd weld the things up smooth.

DITTO on the BIG FLATS RIVET Co. people! If Ford used a rivet from 1909-1948 they have a replacement for it and every set and bucking bar to set them. Super nice people and the prices a very reasonable.

sacramento vintage ford has every part you need to rebuild it back to stock specs. Look it up on the net. There prices are very compe***ive. I have bought parts new for the same price I have gotten them used elsewhere,.
