Olds engine ?

  1. What color would a 1960 Olds 371 have been painted from the factory?

I dunno if this is a 371 or a 394, but it still has remnants of what they^ said on it.....you can see a few specks of it left on the valve cover in this pic......kinda....:D

    That's the color I remembered...kinda turquoise maybe?

Not sure what they called it, but my 394 was that color from the factory.

did they come in different colors?

I know it's not the same year but,
I've had two '62s and don't think the motors had been touched before I got them, but it seems to me they were not the same color

    one red and one green?

my '63/64 looks like it may have been painted a stock color, but what do I know?

My 60 Olds 394, original as pulled from the car (BTW same car as your fenders came from), is painted a green color, darker than shown in 60's style pic. Maybe a little blue to the green color, but mostly green. Not forest green, and not a turquoise green either.

Wer'ent they a light shade of gold?

  9. That's what i was thinking at first . I talked with Kustombuilder about it and he thought the gold color started more towards the end of the 60's.

Yep, they sure were and the valve covers had " OLDSMOBILE ROCKET" on them via a black decal, the W motors of that year had bubbles on them to clear the rocker arms.

USA Parts lists 59 - 60 371" as gold, 59 - 60 394" as green. For some odd reason they don't show anything for 1961.

mystery solved. how funny that the two different motors (other wise externaly identicle) were two different colors.

you were thinkin of going gold anyway, right?

  14. Yup, gold was what I was thinking.
