Does anyone have a link to an exhaust configure site? I'm ready to take the ol ferd to the muffler shop for pipe. I am set on an x-pipe. However I am undecided on pipe diameter. Factory is 1 3/4 inch single. I'm torn between 1 and 3/4 or 2 inch. I can not decide on 2 or 4 resonators? I like the crack of narrow exhaust but dislike the drone of larger exhaust. Anyone out there with a clue on this situation? I don't want it to loud. However I don't want to choke the cam (mild/rv type) I put in it.
I have a 63 Meteor with a 260. I'm running 2.5" duals without an x pipe and with Borla mufflers that were for a 93 mustang. It sounds awesome! I'd add an x pipe if I were doing it again.
I ordered a whole exhaust from Waldron Exhaust, with custom larger than stock pipes. I also went with thier own mufflers. The idle is great, the sound when you get on it is great, but cruising the wind noise is greater than the exhaust so we can still talk. It was expensive, but the tube is very heavy. I primed and painted it with high heat flat black, its holding up very well. I highly recomend them.
1.875" Pipes. 2" if you must. 1.75 will work but it will be more raspy. I would start with 2 resonators, you are talking about running just resonators and no mufflers right? I think you will like the sound. If it is too loud you can always add another pair of resonators at a later date.
thanx all. mike and ******, I was leaning tward the narrow pipes. ******, I was thinkn the same thing about adding another set of resonators later if i desire. so decision is made. 2 inch pipes and a set of resonators with an x. now to line up transport to the muffler shop...... i have truck need to borrow trailer
Ha I had to think about that statement. the squares threw me off. You know when you are old because you remember the town square as a place and not a person.
Just drive it there. We drive all over with open headers and cops sit right next to us at redlights and never give us a second look. A 260 isn't going to make all that much noise and if you do get stopped tell them you are on the way to get an exhaust system put on. Just don't drive like an idiot and you will be fine. Don
Im sure the fuzz wouldnt give me to much guff. my thing is ive got bout 30 miles to the shop. id realy hate to fry a valve on its maden trip
That's an old wives tale. Open exhaust won't cause any harm to the valves at all, look at all of us who are running open headers . Save yourself some money on a transporter, just drive it. Don
But get cotton for your ears, a lot of difference in the sound of a set of headers in a roadster and a pair of cast manifolds in a closed car.
That smaller engine with a mild cam will work much better with an exhaust under 2" . That will give you better low end torque for the street . If you go bigger than 2" you are going to loose the low end torque which the engine will want . Retro Jim
