I'm trying to mate a couple of rare Vintage Finned Drum Brakes to a Rear Axle I had made for my Mallock ( about 15 years ago...) The Drums came off another Mallock, and my axle is set up for Discs. After trying different things and taking lots of measurements, I think I found the right combination of parts that will make it work with a minimum of machining. Then I noticed that one of the specially made ( by Quaife, England )Driveshafts was missing a thrust washer. I hunted around for it for a while, couldnt find it. Mallock Racing sent it to me in the Mail a couple of weeks after I got the Axle, several long distance moves ago. Then I remembered one more logical place where it could be, and there it was! So I dont have to get or make a new one... That could have been a major h***le.
It must be nice to be organized. I cant find parts while i'm working on em! It does feel great when that happens.
So where was it? Someplace obvious? I thought I lost my cellphone last night. I felt an empty holder clipped onto the left side of my belt. I thought, oh **** its gone, before I realized t was in my right hand.
My entire garage is organized like that. I have uncountable numbers of small but someday useable items each in an entirly logical place. Only problem is the number of logical places any one of them might be in when needed is approaching infinity
My method of orgasnization is just to put the part, tool, pencil, whatever in the last place I'm gonna look for it. And whaddya know, its always there!
I've lost thing on the top of my work bench for several hours before. Set something down on the bench, do whatever with the other part, can't find the part I layed on the bench 10 minutes before. Think I need to clean off all the junk on the bench, but where would I put that stuff so I could find it when I need it??? I suppose someplace theres some guy that has everything figured out, but it ain't me... Gene
Don't feel bad - I found mine in the freezer after three days of searching. Shouldn't have had that 8th maragarita.... So I ain't the brightest bulb...
