I want to add subtle pinstriping to my Buick, she is antique (egg shell) white and deep dark brown.. any and all color ideas are welcome, or should I just leave it totally up to the artist?
I will be leaving mine up to the artist. ...and I am an artist myself (not pin stripe though). Find someone who's work you really like and then let them go at it! ~ Carl
Though I would have some ideas... if your pin striper is worth a sh!t, they will know what to do. I will be striping my own car I would definitely use some of those unique body lines to my advantage.
Agreed. A good striper can look at a car and SEE the finished work. Let him have at it telling him you only want a mild job done.
Let your striper decide. Afterall there is more to pulling a stripe than just pulling a stripe. A decent striper will make your car look great.
I like to keep my work more on the subtle side. There are a lot of pinstripers out there today that will fill out your entire deck lid with every color of the rainbow as large as they can. Pinstriping is suppose to be an accent to the car, not a feature. My suggestion would be to keep it simple and do a single color design with just the eggshell white over the brown, or a nice complimentary two color design using a tan that is between the eggshell and brown, with eggshell white over it. Just my 2 cents.
Let the artist do it! Like any true artist, giving them an idea (something wild, something subtle) and let them run with it. I just had my masterbath remodeled, and the guy about fell over when I told him to do what he thought would look good. Came out WAY better than I could have imagined it. Same with tattoos as well. and BTW, great looking Buick!
Talk to the pinstriper beforehand and give them a rough idea of what you want and what you don't. Respect their knowledge and advise and get a price agreed. Many times they will have work you can look at to get ideas. It's all well and good letting someone "to their thing" but if it's not what you like your screwed. I DIDN'T talk to the guy 4 years ago that striped my car for me and it was awful. Way too much striping, god awful colors and i hated it. Because of that i started striping for myself and glad i did. Good luck and remember they maybe the artist but your the one with the folding stuff
For what it's worth;I wouldn't do any striping on it if it were my car.But it's not so here is what I would consider: A single color on each color;that is:dark brown on the Ivory and Ivory on the dark brown.A small design on the hood and deck only.I wouldn't put a side stripe on it because it has enough lines running down the side already.
Ask the pinstriper to pencil the designs on paper before slinging paint. Even if a design is symmetrical or well created it doesn't mean you will like it.
