What kind of seat did you use in your roadster. I know Glide and Teas both make seats that will fit, but I'm wondering about something out of a late model --something. I'm look for a low setting seat.

I've used the Glide seat from So-Cal on a few 32 roadsters, they sit low enough for me and my customers. They seem to sit lower than the standard glide seat so it lets the back slide under the rear deck panel. Did a Hotrods and Horsepower body with a WiseGuys seat, it did not have an adjustable back. I've also done several with scratch built seats that were built into the car. My last roadster had bomber seats from Frank Wallic in Denver.

We did one for my sons 32 roadster, from Glide and it sits very low and we both are very happy with it. --TV

  4. Hey Doc,
Yea you can get a pricy Glide seat - but why suffer? I pulled my roadster seat from a late 80's S10. Chopped it about 5" or so in the middle - chopped the foam too. Hey it was FREE! Comfortable and with a new cover (wide pleats) it looks the part!!!

Check out Bengels, user name metaltwister. They offer a hamb discount and are cheaper then glide and comparable.

I've seen some chop up a third row seat from an old suburban (or blazer back seat). Really just chopping the armrests off and modifying the bottom to bolt in.

I have also saw some from a dodge caravan used.

Look at some of the rear seats in some import suv's and crossover type things. Some of those things the backrest folds front and then the seat pivots front. The late model junkyards might give you a hard time about roaming around looking at rear seats. I just go to small used car lots. A lot of them are really car guys and they understand. Also public auto auctions, lots of cars, bring your tape.

I got mine from a late '90's Ford Windstar. Very little mods needed and fit like a glove. And CHEAP!

The middle seat from the Mopar minivan. Perfect fit, I simply shortened the mounting brackets and very cozy on the booty. When you upholster it just remove the head rest nubs as well as the center belts that are attached to the seat.

I have used the S10 Bench seat with some success. I would section 6 to 8 inches out of the center of the seat frame. This way you can still use the glider part. I would cut the seat foam with a hacksaw blade, then reglue them with 3M 77.

I think the early Ranger bench would work too.

Austin healey 100 seats, which I am putting in my 53 healey and finding something new for the 32. Mine is channeled and I'm not going to run a bench for now anyways.

I used a second row Dodge caravan seat, took off the headrests and added about 6 inches of cushion for height. I made new brackets, sits low, sits soft and nice and was free. Plenty of leg room for cross country travels

Anybody got a picture of an original '32 seat? I don't think I've ever seen one. Were they wood framed?
