So how's it coming along? More pics! :)

The heater isn't as terrible to deal with as on an AC car, but I think it'd be more work to convert it to cables, as in a hundred times more. Every single action of the heater is controlled by a vacuum servo motor. Unfortunately ya still have to deal with that servo control head, if it's not working right nothing will.

I'm getting ready to send mine out for a rebuild so I can post back my results if you want. PM me your email address and I'll scan all the diagrams and email em to ya.

So how tough was it getting the 400 in there?

the 400 has to sit on more of an angle and higher up than I would like because the starter is in the way. The only problem is I'll have to run a smaller fan with an electric back up.
Had to have a really long heavy duty drive shaft made.
I'll have more pics up this week, it should be all done and ready to roll.

its broken, and twisted. I beat it back into shape as best I could.. It runs okay. I'm not crazy about how high the motor sits in it or the fact that I have to buy one of those smaller adjustable starters. Lesson learned. If you want it done right, do it yourself.

All and all I have just about all the little issues ****oned up..

    Whats the problems with yours?
Also do you have a nice shot of the fuse panel under the hood? I have a lonely wire hanging down and I wanna see where it goes..

Now just gotta finish up a few little issues here and there, runs pretty good though. Needs shocks and an alignment pretty bad.

At 1st i thought the seats would have loked like *** in there but to be completely honest i think they look quite good.
Great project anyway, and cars, baby and wife all look real good.
Is the air suspension in already?

Not yet, once I get it running 100% I'll get the suspension and paint done. Just found the short in my power windows.. Also just put a chevy 3 wire in it and took out all voltage regulator wiring mess.

only ****py thing about bagging this car is that I cant drop it to the ground because the exhaust hangs down too far... damn unibody.

I wish I would have seen this before you got the motor in but from what I have been told Ford retarded the cam timing on the 400s just like the 460s and with a aftermarket timing chain set they will wake the motor up a bit. I had two 1977 460s with one being original and the second being rebuilt with possibly a straight up timing chain set and the two motors were completely different and the second motor would run circles around the stock one.

Nice to see it on the road! Got my coupe back on the road today too, radiator and gas tank, finally I hope, fixed. Ordered some gl*** from Hamber CBlattie, and finally changed out the badly cracked drivers window, cleaned up the window switches while I was at it too.

Changing that piece of gl*** was a real pain in the *** too. Also noticed one of the screws holding the window motor in was way loose!

I have a lot of work yet to do. But it was so nice to drive it. It was 77 all day and sunny. had to take the carb apart and clean it in the food lion parking lot but it was worth it.

Wait, just was looking at the pics, thought you said it was an AC car? Does it have an aftermarket one under the dash?

If it does it's gonna be a LOT easier than dealing with factory AC. Like think... Difference between rebuilding a Jaguar V12 and replacing a spark plug.

Yup, Its an aftermarket floor ac. All I gotta do is get two long hoses made and I'm golden. Gonna make the heater vents in the kick panels open with old style "choke" style cables.

What are you using for a radiator?

  23. He's probably right on with that timing retard thing, when they started trying to get these cars to get better milage and emissions and so on that was the first thing car makers did was detune the motors. In fact sometimes they did it for the emissions to the point it hurt the actual fuel economy.

    Factory radiator.

And I have had a few issues with the timing after ditching all the vacuum lines and such.. actually unhooked the vacuum advance to get it to run better until I can get that damn distributor to turn..
