That sure has it's share of rust, as my 54 Capri does, but it does have hydramatic, so that is a good thing. Looking at the hood in the picture tells me that the hood hinges are just like mine, SHOT!

The front suspension on those cars is one of the best ever produced in this country. Research winners of the Mexican Road Race. For help with the engine, at the top of the page is "community", under that is Y blocks. The Lincoln engine is very similar to the smaller brother Y block. Very good engines.

I had a '53 4 door.....one of the nicest, most quiet running cars I ever owned.
Very sad day when it got sideswiped from bumper to bumper.

Yeah the hinges popped after a little hot to get it to open lol. I have another 52 shell thats chopped with a good hood and couple fenders for each side. For now the plan is to get the 317 going, I did get it to fire the other day after a tune up, then attack front floor, rocker, and door jamb. It sat in a barn but unfortunately the barn leaked right onto the hood and water drained back-side of the left fender. The other 52 is clean so I might rat rod it with whats left. I gotta get more pics on this computer soon!
I read about the Lincoln taking several of the top positions for several years in the road race. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for the tips.

I can probably score you a pair of 52 Mercury Monterey hood hinges if you're interested. I think the hood hinges were still there, but I wasn't looking for them in particular so I could be wrong. I would think they would probably be the same hinges..? Might want to look into that though. The car is an hour and a half away, but I'm going to need to go back before too long anyway. I'll be looking forward to the build!

PS - NEVER, and I mean NEVER use the words RAT and ROD together anywhere on this site... BIIIIIIG NO NO. This site is not about rat rods, and other members will let you know about it with a vengeance.

I welded up the hinges. They weren't too bad. Thanks though. With the rat talk I meant that as a whole other project with my leftovers from this car since i have almost two complete cars.

I have a collection of Lincoln parts going, more for a 55, but compare what may work for your year and shoot me a PM of what you need. I'd be glad to help you out.

Anybody know what the adjusters should be at? I changed the rocker shafts because I found some broken pieces. I believe this is a hydraulic lifter set-up.

Yes the Lincoln had hydraulic lifters.

The same engine was used in heavy duty Ford trucks with solids. Tom McCahill special ordered a 53 Lincoln Capri hardtop with the truck cam because he didn't like hydraulic lifters. So far as I know that was the only one made like that. But if you want to go solids, the truck cam, lifters, and adjustable rockers will fit.

I just did some work on a '54. The lifter are hydraulic and the adjustment is 2.5 turns after you take the lash out. Can't tell you what sequence. You might have to do it on TDC of each cyl. Let me know if you have anymore questions

Yeah I got some parts from a ford 317. If I go into it completely Ill probably do that. For now Im trying to see if it will run. I thought it was around 2-2.5. Ill just start at one and go the the firing order. I gotta figure something out on my own huh? Thanks

Did a compression test and had a consistent 40-60 psi in each cylinder which seemed strange. Looks like the timing chain stretched and jumped out of time. Guess that explains the hard turning. Now to figure out where to go with it next.

mattcrp1- I forgot to add the other pics. This shows the real rust damage. Worth the work to me though.
