Hi guys, I have a rear end out of a 86 camaro under my 50 ford coupe, It is a ******* 26 spline auburn carrier (toast) and the whole thing has been narrowed. so i must retain my 26 spline axles...I bought a 2nd series carrier on Ebay thinking it would bolt in in time for the next cruise...the overall lengh of the units are identical, but the ring gear mount surface is .300 shallow on the new 2nd series unit. mr gasket 908a lists a spacer, but is only .25 thick..and way to big! Also new carrier is VERY tight going in the housing. I'm guessing it needs shimmed now also? I'm guessing this will affect backlash ect also..I may be in over my head lol. Any advice and insults appreciated..I know the rear end is a joke, but its in a 300hp cruiser, not a 10 second camaro
What gear ratio are you using? And are they GM gears? Setting up GM rear ends isn't too difficult provided you have some experience doing it.If not, find a guy who knows and can check it out.
