try and ignore the streetrod paint and interior.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1937...QQcategoryZ6472QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#Slidetour
Absolutely nothing just like every other look at this so we can talk about how hideous it is thread. Looks like someone put in alot of work on it, nice finish work. Pretty well thought out design. I think everytime one of these post come up the poster has to also show the car he built so we can compare the two. I never respond to these post but this shit is getting fucking old.
I have tightly coiled packages in my yard that have more to do with traditional rods and customs than this thread. And Im not talking about my cars but the nieghbors may argue with you.
Cartoon car, indeed! I think it's great. And for every guy who sat in Social Studies class drawing three-foot high fenderless pickups , there was a guy drawing this car.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cartoons are fake, this car is real. The man or men that built THIS car, obviously have tons of talent. YOU don't have to like it, but your a fool if you think you wouldn't be proud to own and drive this "non cookie cutter" piece of art. "YA, NO WAY WOULD I LOOK COOL DRIVIN THAT" Lets see what you naysayers have to offer up. Flatblack rustbuckets with red wheels just proves you have TUNNEL-VISION for the simple shit. but it don't mean this car isn't an "over the top" trad built custom car. Just cause ya can't build it or afford it, don't mean ya should knock it. VERY SHALLOW, if you say you wouldn't want to own and drive it.
$25,000 for the paint job alone? Hell I would have painted it for $24,000! You'd think that with $15,000 worth of upholstery they could have made a cover for the bottom of the trunk! ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" Giggle Cream - it makes dessert *funny*!
Shoot me, but I like it... I wish I had half the bodywork talent and engineering it took to get it to look that nice... stance is just great. If it were painted suede with a flathead peeking out from other the hoodflaps, you all would be drooling over it.
I have to agree with lionheart...cool car. Maybe not Kool, but definately unique and loaded with custom METAL ideas and talent. I gotta say I really like the rebellious in yer face flat black look, but it really does have it's place. Not on that car though. We all need to remember that because of the rod traditions of using our stuff in primer 'till it's done, rollin on stock rims waiting to save the jack for new ones, the "look we all have a fondness has evolved. My ol man did that shit. No 1-800-STREETROD shit for him. We did it all ourselves. I gotta think that many of us with our roots in customs and rods look through old photos at dads or uncle so n so's rod and remember when we knew what counted. So now we have this latest "movement" that is no movement at all. It's respect and homage to where most of us started. No such thing as a "RAT ROD". That is really what got us to where cars like this Hudson are now built. But back to that car...While I respect what they did, have the stones and talent to do it my damn self, I'd pick ANY FUCKIN COLOR other than VIPER RED!!. GEEZUS H CHRIST!!! Picture that car in bright silver. How about a nice traditional brassy gold? Even charcoal grey would fit it better and I HATE that fuckin color on anything but a 70's Caddy. But I like it and applaud the builders visions.
That car was out of Maryland originally. It may be about 6 to 7 years old. I think the guys name that built it is Smith. He built a fenderless Desoto years ago too. It was originally yellow. There's a lot I like about the car but there's a few areas he could have done better. The window area looks too plain to me. I love the wheel openings. They have a real art deco feel to them. With the right wheel it would look great! Clark
Man, I think that car is great. It's not finished in the final dress that I would have done had it been my decision, but the overall design really cool. I could see that car really coming alive if it were finished out in a more art deco manor. To those that don't like it, imagine the impact that this car would have if it were built in the 40's using 40's era touches. More bright work, different interior and wheels would make all the difference in the world. Chris
I agree, that would go from being a "look at me" car to an outstanding work of art with more attention to detail... some trim, vintage wheels, and a more classic interior. And black paint, it needs to be black. Outstanding shapes on the fenders, interesting car.
That's a brilliant idea. What's the cliche about people in glass houses? I think there should be a rule like this. Pick on somebody else's work, put your own up to scrutiny at the same time. It's only honorable.
So now were gonna post every car that someone thinks could be cool if you took off all the billet shit and added some other crap. It still dosn't belong on here and that dose not discredit the metal work he did.
Yes the car was built by that guy Smith out of Maryland. He's built a number of really wild, really squashed cars, and most of them were far mor on the money than off. He has the eye for design and BALLS to build what he wants, not a xerox of a xerox of a xerox of the same old stuff everyone else is building. He doesn't really care what people with no imagination or original thoughts care about his cars, he just does what he likes. God bless him. His cars are over the top (actually far under the top) but thay all draw a crowd. I wish I knew that whacked fastback 48 fleetline was for sale for 15K after he built it, it was killer. Last time I saw it it was painted peach.
The car is certainly out there, and nobody here could discredit the metal work to build it. The paint job would show any marginal work, and it looks pretty flawless to me. Granted it ain't my cup of tea, but it's a helluva piece of work. Cartoon cars were around back in the day too, but we don't bitch about them.
Flipper, I agree with you completely. The car is out-fucking-rageous IMHO and yes, the paint and interior would need to be changed if I was to be the owner/operator. It's so refreshing to see some guy choosing a Terraplane, a packard or anything not 32-40 ford. I pick orphan cars for myself. I try to visualize the finished car before I ever buy it. One of the cars on my "list" is a 35 Hupmobile coupe....if I'd ever get a chance to score a decent, solid Hup, I'd sell all my other projects to finance it..yes, even my 26 Olds roadster lakes modified project.... I love the plan to require naysayers to show thier own cars....so much so that I'm gonna post a photo of my non-bellybutton driver. A 41 Poncho with original flathead 239 six popper.... ...but I'm not sure if it establishes my credibility or blows it!
Interior is kinda street rod ordinary, but I like they general style. I think it would look better with oval wheels, Lance Sorchik style.
I wasn't "picking" on anybody's work. I think the car is cool. I only mentioned ignoring the paint and interior so that the flat black-n-red wheel crowd would look at the design. As for posting my stuff, I have posted my projects here. ....I'm the guy putting a 1,790 ci V-12 into a Seagrave firetruck http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22710&highlight=firetruck+smoke ....I'm also the guy cutting a rusty piece of crap Mercedes 4 door down into a coupe. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27424&page=1&pp=20&highlight=mercedes+death .......and have pieces of a model A coupe that will someday be a traditional hot rod (highboy with a 331 cad)
