Ok, I've been reading this board for awhile and I never ceased to be amazed at the information I've seen and learned flying around here. This has to be the best board on the web for greaser gear heads.... You guys make me seriously consider selleing my 67 Tempest Psuedo G***er and buyin an Old Car and havin at it.... But anyways, I figure if it is possible, you guys would know the answer to this: Is there ANY way to repair cracked windshields? My daily driver 72 Caddy 3-way He**** recently had the misfortune of getting broadsided by a drunk (really, that parked car just jumped out in front me ) and the windshield has a big U-shaped crack in it now. It's about 2 feet in total length. The cheapest piece of gl*** I can find for it is like 900 bux shipped, which I don't have. Is there ANYTHING I can do to at least minimize the appearance of the crack, let alone repair it? Would gl*** epoxy be my best bet? Is there anyway I could heat repair it? I figured if anyone knew anything about this sort of thing, it would be you all. And FYI, I already have the body and bumper fixed and everything else replaced better than new.... Picked up one of those Hydralic Collision Repair Kits for 160 from the local Carquest (I get whoesale prices) and it's worth every cent..... Haunted Ken
I just sold my '71 S&S He****!!! A crack is not repairable, due to the fact that it's structural. The gl*** does move and flex, so anything you try to fill the crack with will crack too. It's now a weak point in that gigantic windshield. They are available, though! I have a buddy who does windshields and he told me when I had mine that he could order them. I don't know your situation, but you could always look up your local auto gl*** distributor, and check into it. You could also check out the He**** clubs. Try www.phantomcoaches.com
