I am burnt out on these California swap meets and want to hit some out of state ones. Any suggestions on some good ones west of the Mississippi? I am looking for good ones to buy and sell at. Any help would be appreciated. One I am thinking of is in Belton Texas on July 7th. Anyone go to this? Is it worth the drive from California?
Three good swap meet to go to. Portland Ore is a good one The Sacramento swap meet in Aug ( old hot Aug nite swap meet) Pomona swap My .02 cents
Portland is good first time this year for me. I went to pamona after portland in April and didnt do very good at all. Sacramento in rust we trust was good too.
Pomona ****s. I first went in 1980 and the last one I went to was this past March and it ****ed. It's Long Beach and the Net for me the next time I need something.
Best swap meet IMO is the Frog Follies swap meet/cars how in Evansville, in may be a little far though.
The one in Belton is not worth driving from Cal. It aint that big at all. You missed the Pate Swap Meet in Ft Worth a few months ago. That one was worth going to. There aren't a lot of good swap meets this time of year due to the intense heat of summer in the south.
The Decatur Swap Meet in February at the Wise County Sheriffs Posse Grounds in Decatur TX. Yep, home of "the Eighter from Decatur, County seat of Wise". The Pate Swap Meet at the race track in Denton TX starts the last Thursday of April. The MOTAA Swap Meet on Pe*** Jean Mountain in Arkansas starts next week on Thursday.
Wow I opened this thread an hour ago and closed it thinking I would come back later and read all the flaming for no intro .... none! ... were getting soft! BTW the little California swapmeets in out of the way places are the best .... Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Fortuna .... vintage stuff at cheap prices.
We're not getting soft just leading the newbie on a bunch of wild goos chases Try the swap meets in Tijuana.....
so, what swap meets have you hit in Calif that were so awful. bottom line is you never will know what you missed unless you go. hope you have $$ for gas, food, motels, etc and no one steals stuff off your trailer while sleeping. oh ya, who are you and what is your ride and what are you selling?
Actually, it starts on Tuesday and runs thru Saturday. But your right, it's one of the better ones. Springfield, Mo. swap in August is also a big one.
One I injoy is in Springfield Missouri, it's the same weekend as the HAMB drags, you can do the swap meet Friday and the drags Saturday.......makes for a great weekend. Decatur and Pate are worth the drive.
What are you into? Not much on your profile. Maybe GTO? If you are into restoring Durants or like Donavan 4 cylinder engines I can definitely understand your being burnt out. Having said that I am into early Fords from the thirties. A little restoration, a little into flatheads and era correct speed equipment. The only two swap meets left in California that I would drive very far to attend are the Big Three in San Diego in Feb and the LA Roadster show in June. I like to catch some of the small club swap meets but only if they are close. Charlie Stephens
Yep. I haven't been back since I moved west and I really miss it. I've been to a few on this side of the US and nothing has worn my feet out like Hershey.
The only great swap meet is the one where you find what you are looking for at a price you can live with. Or as I experienced this year at Portland just by chance found something I never expected to find but had to have and again at a price I could live with.
Portland is the best I've been to but I don't know about driving across the country for it. Also, it's "Always In April" (their slogan) so you have a bit of a wait..
Pomona swap meet should be renamed "The Chevy/Low Rider Swap" I can never find ford or any hot rod parts there... So I go to Long Beach Swap It is smaller and better mix of parts...
you should have stopped by my spot last weekend, i had all kids of model A hot rod parts for sale.. lots of lookers but not too mant buyers.. of course everything i sold i wish i kept.. but that's how it always is. i will be in long beach this sunday, if you see anything you want let me know and i'll bring it with me.
portland oregon in april. two swap meets in one. PIR and EXPO. always a great swap. bring a rain coat just in case.
Jim, there are already some people on the grounds today! I didn't realize the museum would let anyone on the grounds that early. And I'm gonna have to check out Springfield's, I've never been to it..
I didn't think that they would let anybody on until Tuesday. Springfield used to be a good one, but I can't say about the last couple of years. It's also the same week as the h.a.m.b. drags...
Any swap meet is good when you find the part you have been looking for. I found a set of tail lights for my 39 Dodge ( had been looking for 10 yrs) at a little hole in the wall swap meet as I was p***ing thru a town for 20 BUCKS!!!!! So to me it dosen't matter how big or small swap meet is, just get out there and look. I went to a meet where there was only 10 venders and found a 56 Chevy continental kit for 75 bucks. So to all gear heads get out there, you never know what you will find.......
