History Veta Orr Roadster history?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bad Bob, May 24, 2012.

  1. I really feel bad about the time I spent with Veda in the 70's. I worked at Harry's Gl*** in Pasadena for 11 years. in that complex was John Eppard one of the founders of the Pasadena Roadster Club. next to him was Art Sparks Forged true pistons. most of the 30's and 40's Hot Rodders stopped by all the time.
I spent a couple hours with Veda putting a windshield in her Model A coupe. she was very much a lady with alot of cl***. I had a piece of **** gl*** T-Bucket she made it out as a cool HoT Rod. I just blew her off as being polite. I've always wondered what she had under the hood of that stock looking A. I did cut her old windshield up an made a paper weight out of her "Model A club of America" decal. I still have it on my desk

I am not sure how many shops Karl had, but the one I went into, in about 1969-70 was located on Old San Fernando Road in what was then Canyon Country, East of Saugus, North LA County. Old San Fernando Road was the road to Lancaster/Palmdale before Hwy 17 (Freeway) was built.
I did not know who Karl Orr was, but it was a great step back in time as he had mostly flathead and banger stuff. Many pics of Himself and Veda on the walls, lakes and famous board tracks around So Cal. I was working on a '34 three window at the time and trying to make it a '50's rod with 59A mill, Ford banjo R.E., etc. I really enjoyed listening to him!
The shop I went into may have been the one in the picture. I wasn't even looking for it, just cruising, and saw this little, plain shop & sign and thought it might be interesting...
    Thanks for the memories!

Cyclone Kevin jogged my memory as I was reading back through the posts. YES, as a matter of fact, it was Sierra Highway NOT San Fernando Road, and it was Mint Canyon not Canyon Country. I was living up San Franciscquito Canyon at the time, just West of there. I wouldn't recognize the area now. (Wish I still had that '34 three window!)

    Sorry, hotroddon!
Congratulations on your vivid memory. I don't want to deprive you of that credit.
It's amazing, some of the obscure trivia that pops up on the HAMB!
Karl Orr ! Who'd a thought? Those were pretty high times for me, I'm surprised I remember that much.......
