In a 250 swap from integrated head to non-integrated head what casting number am i looking for. Putting it in a 50 Styleline. Some have the smog holes and none are needed. Thanks in advance.
I'm guessing you mean the head casting number? Inliners.Org lists the casting numbers, but, I'd use a head from a 194 CID six cylinder with a casting number of 3864883. With milling that head .060, it'll give 10:1 CR on a 250 engine. Butch/56sedandelivery.
Thanks Butch, that's the kind of info I am looking for.I am looking at getting an intake for a four bbl and dual exhaust. Any other info for this set-up is appreciated.
All inline Chevrolet heads interchange, 194, 230, 250, 292. Stay away from the late model junk like you have. The rest all have about the same cc's, none are any better or worse. Not all 194's have the smaller chambers so check the number before purchase. The 194 head will raise compression, but due to the poor port design, you won't gain a lot of power with out some porting work. You are better off with a 250 head and a set of 307 Chevrolet V8 flat top pistons. The pistons are a drop in and will raise the compression to around 9 to 1, just right for todays gasoline. Clifford makes nice hop up parts but are intended for more racing then street driving. The intakes use much larger ports then the Offenhauser's. If going with headers, choose a long primary, small diameter set, shorty type are not much better then log manifolds. Joe
