    Hello folks,

I am brand new to the board here and just want to say thanks to the administrators for putting together such an outstanding community of car people. This place is the best.

I have a question about transporting the '64 Biscayne wagon in my profile pic. Right now the car is in Texas and I need to get it to Cape Cod.

The lowest quote I received for open transport was $675 with the average quote falling in the $750 to $800 range.

The lowest closed transport quote I received was $1200 with the average being around $1400.

Now, I understand the closed transport option makes sense if I was moving a valuable cl***ic, but my wagon is under 20k and as far as I know, it won't melt if it gets wet.

All of the transport companies carry insurance, whether open or closed, so I am hoping some of you more knowledgeable types can school me on the way to proceed. What option would you choose?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

It all depends on what you want. If it were my car I would want it enclosed. Weather isn't much of a concern this time of year. Who ever transports it will have to stop overnight at least once and if they dont have a sleeper, they will be in a motel somewhere leaving you car exposed to anyone that wants to get a closer look at it including breaking into it and or stealing it. The prices you stated are pretty good, for either enclosed or open. You might think about requesting top transport if they are using a multicar hauling, will keep leaking fluids from other cars off of yours. As far as insurance, request that the transporter have his insurance agent fax you a copy of his current policy. This is normal and will not be a problem. If they wont do it, they dont have insurance. Good luck, hope this helps. Dave

Thank you guys for the responses. I will definitely inquire about the insurance policy.

I will give you a call in a few weeks, Bill, to get an estimate.

*On a totally different subject, my Honda Element skipped three gears and powered down in the Callahan tunnel in Boston this morning. I was very lucky to have been in the left most lane, because that is the only side with a breakdown lane. I stopped with ten feet of breakdown lane left. If I had missed the lane, I would have probably made the news because the tunnel was full of holiday traffic, and Boston drivers aren't known for their patience.

A State Trooper showed up about 5 minutes after I broke down. A tow truck was there in another 5 minutes. All told, they had me out of the tunnel (at no cost/ paid for with our Federal tax dollars) in less than 15 minutes. The tow driver explained that there are cameras all over the tunnel, and they had dispatched someone to get me as soon as my hazards went on. I am grateful to be in one piece.
