here's another project I'm working on whenever I can. I will be posting more pictures of or cars when I get a URL. Which one is best : Picasa or Photobucket ?

No, the frame is original chevrolet 490. we used model t axles, 1948 chev brakes. As for the steering gear we don't know what it came off of.
I have a 490 chassis lying around and have thought about throwing together a speedster also - I have seen a few good speedsters based on this chassis - not least of which is John Gerber's bob tail. It looks like you have managed to get the front axle forward of the chassis - did you use longer quarter springs in the front? Kume
I didn't use longer quarter springs. I just pushed the rad and engine back. It only looks like the front axle is forward...but it's not. The light buckets ( held in place with some plastic wrap !!!) are actually sitting on the end of the frame. Like I say, when I get around to it I'll post more pictures of our projects in detail. It seems the result is much better when you post pictures from a URL instead of attachements like I've been doing. But isn't wonderful to be able to share stuff on this forum ? The HAMB is great !!! Martin
February! Oh Christ, i thought that was earlier this week, like a couple days ago! Just kiddin, just kiddin. Buick speedster, now thats for me.
YES! Having great projects like yours makes the HAMB addictive, just think of all the people you are inspiring with your Speedster projects. There are a lot of 1920's era chassis that can be bought cheap, and with some basic skills a Speedster can be built. Model T Ford Speedsters have been around since the late teens, nice to see you using different make chassis. Bob
Martin, THANK YOU for sharing your build here on the HAMB!!! Finding a new daily driver has gotten me sidetracked, but I'm in the process of putting together a speedster based on a '2-'28 Chevrolet chassis- can't wait to see how yours progresses!
Go to your user profile and set up an album there. it is easy and that is way better than linking to a seperate site. Now please excuse my confusion but you are putting a '16 Buick on a '49 Chevy chassis or if not what is a 490 Chevy?
Resurrecting this 3 year old thread to see if there is any update on your build- I just picked up a '22 490 roadster (more like a chassis with seats ), and would love to see what you've done with yours!
When did Chevrolet come out with disk wheels? Were they an option and wood wheels were more common? Ford people want to know. Bob
You never did send me those measurements, Bob !!! Bob, I don't know the first year (a little searching said '24, but that was for UK trucks), however, '27 and earlier use a 2 1/2" split rim, and '28 and up use a 3" split rim. Just an opinion, but I would say that the disk wheels are more common than wood... the three sets in the attic of my garage will attest to that
I think you are right Bill. I have seen original discs on 1924 passenger cars in NZ. They were probably more popular that artillery wheels by 1927 down here at least.
