Whats not so cool is buying parts that you "think" may fit, though may have to be returned, not checking out the returns policy and then ***** about the company on a forum.

Not really a very cl***y move when the company have done nothing wrong and honoured their return policy and given you credit.

Talk about burning bridges, should be a nice atmosphere in that place when you go back as no doudt someone will show them this. Best order it and get it posted as you'll be as welcome as a fart in a space suit.

Yep, IMHO it was pretty good of them to offer you store credit for a part that you picked out because it might work, and then didn't- and uncool of you to cap on them about it. If they advised you that it would work, that would be different. **** it up and sell it, or use it for something else.
How many of you have been embarr***ed by the wife/GF when they take back clothes that they have actually WORN? Man, I just couldn't do that- but the gurlz think nothing of it :(
Had a gal come over to go tubbing one night, and she had a new (very hot) leopard-print suit- after she and the suit parted company in the tub, she noticed it had a couple loose threads, and said she was gonna take it back- AFTER taking it through the tub and getting "excited" in it. Made her lose concentration on what she was doing, too-dammit

Because then the money stays in their store... and it's a guarantee that you'll come back and maybe spend more than your store credit!!!

You gotta think like a business person, not a customer!! Business 101... If you can't take care of your customers, someone else will!! That's right up there with the Grocery store putting the bread on one end of the store and the milk on the other!! Ya pick up more than bread and milk as you walk through the store!!

Now you know why "my loss is your gain" comes up in the cl***ifieds. It is common to buy a part and deal with it after...building cars can be frustrating.

You know, honestly, if I am buying a part that I'm not sure I can make it work, ALWAYS ask the return policy and respect it. I have talked to the manager in places a time or two, explained what I was up to and asked if the return policy could be bent, too. But, in the rare cases where it was returned, it came back EXACTLY as it would go back on the shelf including packaging if applicable. And yes, I did grow up working in my family's retail stores...

I've bought a lot of parts that I thought I could make work but didn't work out. It has never occurred to me to return anything. I guess I just figured it's my mistake and my loss. Maybe it will work on the next project. Hell, maybe I could start with that part and build a car around it. That way I'll know it will work.

What if the stores took your hard line approach.......
You returned a part? You can never shop here again. And, they get to tell he world what a poor hot rod builder you are.
You made a mistake. **** it up and learn. Don't be so quick do bash.

I agree with metalshapes. I only return stuff when its some one elses fault what i have is wrong. Its nice after a while you come across a problem and bam heres what you need on the shelf. kinda like store credit.

Also, the time you were "borrowing" the part to "trial fit", it was not on their shelf to sell to somebody else that would keep it. Not trying to be a knob, but as a business owner, there are alot of variables the average consumer may not consider.

I have bought many a part I was stuck with that wouldn't quite work out. Just part of the deal!

interesting read.....I own a parts shop in Australia.
In the same situation, I would have offered store credit or a refund if really required.
But store credit is better, but it depends on the part .

If it was a regular stocked item, the packaging was still intact I wouldnt bat an eyelid in doing the refund.

But I can see where it comes from, we sold a radiator to a guy, 3 months later he calls and says he doesnt need it anymore as he sold the car. He wants a refund.
I tell him sorry it was ordered in for you, I wont take it back.(an oddball application)

We get guys who have opened stuff and want to return it cos they 'changed their mind'
I will offer store credit less 20% as I cant charge full price for it now.

I have been on the otehr side too, if I buy something and its wrong or I chaneg my mind...it goes on the shelf.....man is that shelf getting full!!

So Cal was kind enough to offer store credit and you have the nerve to defame them on here. Just like everybody else in the world that thinks they are En***led...... look up the word accountability, then write an apology to So Cal.

I Work at a Napa store. We just spent the last two days boxing up parts that were ordered for people, that never came to pick them up. Yesterday I returned a service manual. I checked for grease marks on the pages, guess he learned what he needed to know. Can't sell a used book. I blame WalMart for a lot of the problems in today's population.

I walked into my local independent auto parts store and the shelves are almost bare. Because of overhead they barely stock anything but the everyday necessities. They keep the lights off to save on electricity. The on-line retailers are killing them. Add in the fact that people special order parts then try to return them? He charges 20% restocking fee and hopes he can sell it to another person. Don't blame So-Cal. Blame it on the new world, internet and the screwed up economy.

I went to Sacramento So Cal Speed Shop a couple of months after they opened wanted to buy Holley 94 rebuilt kits. The young girl behind the counter had no idea about auto parts, only knew about the wall of T-shirts. She drug some guy from the back who told me they don't sell the kits but maybe could order them. He took my phone number promising to call me back. No call ever. I have never been back and have no intention too.

Time to give up guys he will never "get it". Just another one of the current generation who feel "en***led" to whatever way they want things to be.

They don't even have a clue as to what responsibility and accountability even mean.

I am actually quite happy of the customer service from this particular store. I ordered a fair amount of parts from them and realized 3 mos later that my king pins were not sent in my order. (project got put on the back burner) I called them and within the week they were on my front door step.

Those of us with not so much money, would be happier if they returned the cash. He never used the part as he was never able to install it.
