I was told that there is a HAMB drags at Mo-Kan. I’m looking for a contact number for the person in charge of this event. Please e-mail me with your phone number and the best time to call.

    redbaronracing@juno.com

    Thanks,

    Ken

Thanks for the info. Should have noticed that. duh... Glad you like the truck. Just maybe you'll see it at Mo-Kan. We can set the crowd on its ear.

You got that stuff right!! Running with scissors...petting strange dogs...took the safteys off all my hair trigger pistols....and I got a bumper sticker that says "I Brake For Nothing"! DANGEROUS I tell ya!!!! Just be down in the lights when the parachute comes out. I'll give you the peace sign through the windshield. Ok, you can add that to the dangerous list! "Look Ma! No hands!" DANGEROUS I tell ya!!! Maybe just fast? Don't know...ask the competition....my guess is they'd say dangerous...lol

Its a shame that there aren't more dangerous people out there to give us common folk (I never break the "seven items or less" rule) a good show. All my matresses still have thier tags and I never sit too close to the TV. I bet YOU don't. Captain Dangerous VS> the GASSER GNOME...coming to a theatre near you. watch your leg Captain..He'll DRY HUMP you! Polish your wheels Captain. Seriously, an 8 second solo pass is beter than watching bracket racing any day of the week. Dangerous as it may be....

Come on Spike...tell us how you REALLY feel!! I was just at a so-called gasser race recently in Ohio, all bracket crap. No heads up blown nostalgia cars racing. What a show.. It was like a car show where a piss poor race broke out. It reminded me of the Special Olympics of Drag Racing. There should have been a hugger at the end of the track to cheer them all on. "You hit your dial-in!! Great job!" Excitin' Stuff! Not! Promoters wonder why they can't fill the stands. Spectators want to see more than 11 and 12 second cars racing, and bracket racing at that. You've got to make them say "Wow!". That's the bottom line.
REAL promoters will echo my sentiments. I've met a few really good promoters, and have been at some top notch shows, but unfortunately, most promoters should have a Special Olympic hugger for themselves. Usually the shows are dead and the crowd is jaded before they figure out what they did wrong. Oh well, didn't mean to get into a rant. I heard Mo-Kan was all heads-up racing for this event. That would be cool.

Nice truck, but I hope you're not expecting a giant crowd for signing autographs and stuff....

The HAMB drags is heads up, but we're talking straight 8 Buicks and Flatheads. Not a lot of Nitro at MoKan. Just a bunch of guys driving their hot rods. No promoters or TV crews.......

I'm sure Ryan would love to have a car like yours.

That whole Captain thing is just a persona. I doubt Ken would go just to sign autographs. I just think that the crowd would love to see an 8 second pass from an AA gasser. Its a show all on its own, and its just for fun. However, if we could drag out another gasser to run him....THAT would be entertainment. Problem is, there are no takers. Finding a car that is built to AA/GS spec that runs the numbers is non-exsistant.

I have a guy that has a Model A but it's more of a pro mod style. It's a neat car but not period correct. It runs 7.60ish-8.20 , it's blown alcohol BBC. I could ask?I also has a buddy with a Blown Fiat 427 it just jumps up in the air...maybe a little much for that wheelbase. But they might come....they had a bad experience with the bump that used to be at the end of the track a long time ago......

Gee golly, Captain Dickhead, I'd like to apologize, on behalf of bracket racers everywhere, for your disappointment. We will try to make you happy in the future. PLease don't look down your nose at the people who provide the payouts for you. I'll try to keep my 10 second car out of your way.

Your car is cool. You're not.

So what you are saying is that neither car is a '60's type AA/GSer? And the point to match racing them would be what? Maybe we could call it Mis-Match racing. LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist!

Sorry you did not have a good time at Thompson........The weather got in the way all three days, and Sunday we really never was able to run the quarter mile because of the rain...But I did make 16 passes the first two days runnin 12.3 to 12.3 with my 6x2 setup and had a ball doing it....I think I made more passes than anyone.....It was nice to meet you, but you should have brought your 426 and showed them how you think it should be done....... I know you have brought it in the past...........Littleman

I think you've missed the point, but you probably hear that a lot. Bracket racing is not spectator friendly. I'd have to say that would be the majorities opinion of bracket racing. In other words, I'm simply stating a fact. You just don't like that fact for one reason or another. So you get on the computer, act tough and call names. You are the reason I stay off the computer the majority of the time. Typical button pushing name calling tough guy. Please make it a point to stop in and visit me in person if I'm at a race track near you. Furthermore, I don't look down my nose at anyone. ET racing is fine for those that choose to do it, but it doesn't put butts in the seats.

Your not cool, and your car probably isn't either.

It was nice meeting you too. I dig that little pick-up, and think it's really cool that you have that 6-deuce set up working so well. Most guys can't figure them multi-carb set ups out. But it looks like you've got it nailed. Yea, I brought my car in the past to support the event, but there was no point in bringing it the last couple of years, no class to race it in and nothing to win. That was kind of my point in the first post. Glad you had fun.

    Take care,
    Ken

  22. I wouldnt say there won't be any other AA/GS cars there to race. Mine wont be sorted out by then but should be capable of a good show.

A two car heads up AA/GS match race would pack the stands at any drag strip in the '60s, even on a wenesday night. I'm with you Ken, bracket racing may pack the lanes, which is ok if you're racing, but it dosen't fill the seats. You musta had some bad influences growing up, did ya live too close to a race shop or somethin'? BTW, what are the rules for AA/GS match race cars nowadays? Maybe I could figure out how to bend 'em.

Here's the deal, it's like a bunch of your buddies renting the track for the weekend. Most of the cars are driven there, raced all day then driven home. No show money, no prizes, no trophy girls or TV cameras. Just a bunch of guys having a good time. It's a hoot. There's nothing like it anywhere. I would just hate to see someone drive across country to find that the fastest car there is a 10 second bracket T from Florida.......

  28. Mine is a 1940 willys P/U with a stock willys frame that I boxed and added crossmembers to for the 42" long ladder bars and the tranny mount. I am running a stock willys front axle that I drilled on parallel springs, out back is a 9" ford with Moser axles and center section spinning 2.86 gears. The engine is a 383 chevy running a Callies crank, Oliver billet rods and main caps, J&E pistons with an Isky roller cam topped with a set of ported and flowed World products Iron heads Jesel shaft mounted rockers and belt drive, All of that is force fed by a 6-71 Weiand blower and a Hilborn 4 port set up by Jr. Thompson. The tranny is a magnesium Doug Nash 5spd crash box. The wheels are magnesium American torque thrusts. The cab and bed are steel and the front wrap is a 1 piece cal. The truck weighs 2093 lbs with 52 percent front weight.

Hey willys426, I sent ya some contact information.

The HAMB Drags... I don't know where to even start. It's mostly guys that just really enjoy their cars and each other. It's a race I guess, but the only prize is a great evening among pals. If you really have a passion for traditional hot rods or even traditional drag racing, I'm not sure you could see an event like this anywhere in the country... Perfect track and perfect people.

I will say this - We wouldn't want anyone going down the track if they considered it work and not play.

    Fortunately, this isn't a business...
