you didn't come home with a 38 Packard coupe for $400?? Or a coupe and 2 4 doors for $1200??????? I would be so on that that I might even part out my studebakers to make room
i know..the packards where probably a deal..but they where just rotten, i mean swelling seams flakey rust...and beat to ****...i just couldnt do it..
no engine in the 62..under 600....was a 4 speed car and a real SS...the only person that thought it was a real 409 car was the guy that bought it..no tach, no transmitter print on the inner fender, and no return line on the gas...everyone said it was fake... i really thought i would not get the car for 300, i made a bid, walked away and the dude yelled at me hey whats your number..i thought the kid would go more...he acted like he was gonna get it, i guess i read him wrong...i bid 300 and then..nuttin' but crickets and funny stares...

I was apperantly the only one there that didnt know that I loaded up the car on the trailer and followed that kid home. he still has the car.
This story reminds me of a sale I went to and they had a pile of hubcaps about the shape of the chevy you bought. Two guys ahead of me took choice at 10 dollars and one at five, pulled out what they wanted and walked. Then the auction guy starts with 100 dollars for all, like you said crickets, then all the way down to ten and I say 1 dollar and he looks at me and says sold. Had a full size van and filled it to where I could barely drive. Talk about getting stares. Probably made around 800 on them before giving the rest to a junkyard friend of mine, could'nt stand to look at them anymore.
Great buy, whats the plans? QUOTEsame thing happened to me once. one kid and me bidding, kid bid 300 i bid 350. the croud looks at me as though i murdered someone. i did win the bid, come to find out it was the grandson of the estate and he wanted paps old car. Reminds me of being invited to a friends of a friends house for a dinner party. The kind where everyone brings some food. Took a bucket of ribs and found out everyone was veggie Good luck with the car
i dunno..i like the chevys alot..amd this grill layout works a lot for me....over the past few years, ive found 3 or 4 with the front clip gone or needing a front clip...so im just gonna hang on to it til i find a car needing it and try to steal one..lol good thing ya gave the kid the oportunity to get paps car...ya got a good heart...
I was at an auction like that once. No one said anything to buy the car parts, they were waiting to buy the guy's HF tools in the next building. I thought I was in a room full of mutes. I bought the entire room for stupid cheap and no one spoke.
I forgot the best part, the guy that had the auction was an older guy, i took maybe pics of 10% of the stuff there..he was selling just about everything..hes taking the money and buying.............................................a brand new dodge charger...........super nice guy, i guess he was tired of tripping over the stuff...or probably tired of all the people tire kicking...i know i get tired of peopl asking about my stuff...but a new charger? to each his own i guess....
Wow a Packard, a '60 Pontiac, a Marlin and a 409 car all at the same auction! Quite an interesting and cool collection.
now thats the auctions over and its all said and done..i found out some info..its all the junk from a couple collectors, no good stuff was brought according to them...and from what i heard from an unreliable source, they laffed all the way to the bank..., its was all cast-off stuff of no value to the owners...amazing what people call junk...dont get me wrong its all ruff, but far from junk..and some of it sold way less than s**** value..and..it all sold..
Well that means that you and the other buyers got good deals and they think they made out like bandits. A win for both sides for a change.
