Anybody still like the 60's stock black/body color steel wheel look? I've always liked it but I definitely dont see it much...

That is a good look. Reminds me of when I had my first car and couldn't afford custom wheels. I popped off the wheel covers and drove with bare wheels and chrome lug nuts.

I have a buddy that I went to high with in the 60's that would pull around the corner in his folks Dodge, pop the hub caps off and give the torsion bars about 2 turns with the ratchet and socket he kept hidden in the truck. That worked great until we were out cruising one night and his folks came along riding with another couple.
He even repainted the rims every couple of months to keep them shiny.

I have always loved the plain steel wheels look. I had a 64 Cyclone that had the stock wheels when I bought it. I went out and put tork thursts on it. I was never happy with the way it looked and eventually put the steel wheels back on. Have a 58 F100 and painted them black.

Yes,I still believe they give the car a cool look.I'll be using them on my '65Comet in the future with a mercury dogdish cap.I had to prop them up here to get an ideal of the look.

Of course, then you don't have people saying "THOSE WHEELS HAVE TO GO"

I like that look as long as you arent going with black wheels and using a black wall tire. From a distance it looks funny...........you cant tell where the wheel ends and the tire begins.

Wheels are round, and steel. I won't even entertain anything else. Alloys are for late models.
    Thats just me.

  15. Back in the day racers would pop the caps and run bare wheels at the track. Brings back memories for this old drag racer.

I've always liked the look. Problem these days is finding a decent set of stock wheels. I shopped swapmeets for months seeking a set for a 6 lug Chevy truck.

I love look on my Galaxie and wanted to go black steels on the Comet slicks but chrome smoothies were half the price.
